PROTRANS BC Operations Ltd., a subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis, operates the 19‑km Canada Line rail‑based rapid transit system connecting Downtown Vancouver with Richmond and Vancouver International Airport.

As a Senior Industrial Energy Engineer based in Richmond, BC, you will play a pivotal role in driving energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence across the Canada Line transit system. Working closely with engineering, maintenance, operations, and executive leadership teams, you will lead the development and implementation of innovative energy management programs, energy performance monitoring systems, and strategic energy‑saving initiatives aligned with BC Hydro's Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program. Your expertise will help identify and deliver energy reduction opportunities, optimize asset performance, maximize available funding and incentives, and embed energy management practices into daily operations. Through your leadership, you will contribute to reducing operating costs, advancing sustainability objectives, and ensuring the long‑term reliability and efficiency of one of Metro Vancouver's most critical transportation networks.

Your role

The responsibilities listed below are representative of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list. The Senior Industrial Energy Engineer will perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined in the ProtransBC Senior Industrial Energy Engineer Job Description.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a Strategic Energy Management Plan (SEMP) aligned with corporate objectives and BC Hydro program requirements.
  • Develop and maintain energy consumption monitoring tools, analyzing outputs to highlight trends and opportunities.
  • Develop business cases, feasibility assessments, and implementation plans for energy‑saving opportunities across operations and maintenance, maintaining a live project pipeline.
  • Implement energy efficiency projects, ensuring integration with engineering, maintenance planning, and capital programs.
  • Track and verify energy savings, ensuring long‑term savings through training, procedures, and updated maintenance practices.
  • Provide an energy efficiency viewpoint for capital planning, strategic decision making, and system optimization.
  • Act as primary interface with BC Hydro program representatives, consultants, and external stakeholders.

About you
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related discipline).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial energy management, operations engineering, or asset‑intensive environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing energy management or continuous improvement programs.
  • Strong analytical capability, including experience with energy data analysis, modeling, and performance tracking.
