Kiknu, meaning "our home" in Mi'kmaq, is Nova Scotia's first long term care home on a First Nation community. A residents-first approach to care and service ensures Kiknu is supporting independence, promoting dignity and placing value on the choices for how elders want to live their lives.

Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of Kiknu. Together, we ensure the community will deliver exceptional service and care while honouring Mi'kmaw culture, values and traditions.

We are searching for a Temporary Full-time Long-Term Care Assistant to join our Kiknu team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About the Opportunity

  • Spending one on one time with residents to provide company, meaningful and appropriate conversation and support

  • Answering call bells and redirecting residents when appropriate

  • Supporting residents in recreation programming

  • Assisting residents with eating under the direction of nursing staff

  • Employee screening including measuring and recording temperatures

  • Promoting and enforcing social distancing protocols

  • Monitoring points of entry

  • Assisting with family visits, meal services, daily activities and other tasks such as using technology

  • Performing light housekeeping duties for residents (bed making, linen delivery, cleaning)

  • Additional related duties as assigned

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • A post-secondary education, have valid CPR/First Aid training, Food Handlers Certification and/or experience working in a healthcare environment

  • Previous work experience that is client focused, safety minded and covers a broad skillset.

  • Available to work shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • You are adaptable, friendly and eager to provide assistance where necessary

  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment

  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
