The Role
Contributes to the overall success of the Global Payments Technology in Canada and globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted are following governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You'll Do:
- Own end-to-end delivery for platform support team, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned to business outcomes.
- Lead a cross-functional team (engineering + QA), driving execution, accountability, and high-quality delivery.
- Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to translate business objectives into technical solutions and deliverables.
- Own and manage the team backlog, ensuring proper prioritization across features, defects, technical debt, and operational improvements.
- Drive and maintain the team's roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and platform strategy.
- Collaborate with architects to define system design, API contracts, and service interactions aligned to enterprise standards.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, troubleshooting, and guidance on complex implementations.
- Drive sprint planning, backlog refinement, and delivery commitments with a focus on predictability and outcomes.
- Identify and close gaps in existing processes, workflows, and delivery models to improve efficiency and reduce friction.
- Own production stability, including incident management, root cause analysis, and permanent fixes.
- Work closely with QA to ensure quality is embedded early through test strategy and automation.
- Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks, and drive mitigation plans.
- Provide clear and concise communication to stakeholders on delivery status, risks, and trade-offs.
- Contribute to a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence across the team.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with proven experience leading teams and owning delivery.
- Strong experience delivering solutions in microservices architecture, REST APIs, and event-driven systems (Kafka or similar).
- Hands-on technical expertise (e.g., Java/Spring Boot, databases) with the ability to guide and review engineering work.
- Experience managing engineering backlogs and roadmaps, balancing business priorities with technical health.
- Strong understanding of system design, integrations, and distributed systems.
- Proven ability to drive end-to-end delivery, not just requirement definition or documentation.
- Experience improving team efficiency, delivery predictability, and process maturity.
- Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum practices with a focus on outcome-driven execution rather than ceremonies.
- Experience working with Product Owners and stakeholders to align on priorities while challenging and refining requirements.
Strong stakeholder management skills across business, operations, and - engineering teams.
- Experience supporting production systems, including incident management, root cause analysis, and operational excellence.
- Ability to identify and resolve gaps in processes, workflows, and system interactions.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Confluence for backlog and documentation management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment. - Exposure to banking/financial systems, billing, or pricing platforms is an asset.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automation is a strong plus.
