The Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from January 1, 2027 – May 06, 2027 for the following in-person course:

CSE260H1S – Special Topics in Equity and Solidarity Studies: Introduction to Food Equity and Justice

Introduces food equity and justice through an intersectional analysis of food systems, governance, and everyday food practices. Examines how access to food is unevenly structured by broader social, economic and political systems such as colonialism, capitalism, racialization, gender, migration, labour, as well as ecological conditions. Explores food-based resistance, community care and mutual aid, Indigenous food sovereignty, alternative food networks, and cultural production, emphasizing collective, relational, and non-dominant approaches to knowing, producing, and sharing food.

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.47

Sessional Lecturer I (Long-term): $10,699.21

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.21

Sessional Lecturer II (Long-term): $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturer III (Long-term): $11,228.90

Note: This course will be delivered in an in-person format. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department

Minimum Qualifications

Completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) required with an academic background in food studies, food equity and/or food justice. Academic background in social justice theory/praxis, community engaged teaching and learning, and familiarity with anti-oppressive pedagogies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching equity and social justice issues in a university setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
