We are currently seeking a Coordinating Chaplain to provide spiritual and religious care and support to inmates. This role will involve responsibility for maintaining a comprehensive, multi-faith chaplaincy program for inmates, their families, and staff.
These positions will support all three locations of the new campus model institution which comprises of three sites located at:
2351 Highway 61 South
285 MacDougall Street
2495 Highway 61 South
Successful candidates will be headquartered at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre New Build site (2495 Highway 61 South) and may be assigned to work at any of the three locations within the Thunder Bay campus.
Candidates may be hired in advance of the planned opening in 2027 to support training and ensure effective operations upon opening.

• Coordinate, direct, and supervise the activities of all faith groups within the institution
• Guide, develop, and sustain a spiritual community within the institution
• Develop and strengthen relations with community-based faith groups
• Represent chaplaincy on management committees
• Promote and monitor issues from a spiritual and religious perspective
• Supervise the activities of chaplaincy staff, field placement, and/or summer students
• Provide orientation and on-going training to subordinate staff
• Ensure program adheres to OPS and ministry policies and legislative requirements
• Forecast budgetary requirements and manage budget

Mandatory requirements• You possess endorsement from a recognized Spiritual, Religious, Creed or Faith Group or Organization.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience• You have extensive experience providing spiritual care programs and services within an institutional setting (such as health care, military, corrections, education, residential care, etc.)
• You have applied knowledge of various faith groups, multi-denominational groups, as well as religious beliefs and practices, which may be acquired through a combination of university, theological school, certification program, and/or professional experience
• You have demonstrated experience working collaboratively with various faith groups and communities
• You have general understanding of the criminal justice system and correctional institutions in order to develop spiritual programming that meet the needs of inmates
Group Leadership and Supervisory Skills• You are able to orient, train and oversee subordinate staff and volunteer personnel
• You can represent chaplaincy on management committees to bring forward issues and discuss services
• You have communication and interpersonal skills to interact with inmates, families, staff, and volunteers
• You are able to promote and advocate for spiritual and religious needs
• You are able to develop and strengthen relations with community-based faith groups
Program Coordination and Organizational Skills• You can plan, organize, and implement spiritual and religious care services and programs for the institution
• You have demonstrated financial skills to prepare and submit a proposed budget for chaplaincy services and to administer the approved funds
Analytical Skills and Good Judgement• You can identify and resolve issues as well as work within the legislative framework and requirements
