The Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law is one of the oldest professional faculties at the University of Toronto. Today, it is one of the world's great law schools. Jackman Law's rich academic programs are complemented by its many legal clinics and public interest programs. Jackman Law is housed in the elegant, state-of-the-art Jackman Law Building, alongside two historic buildings, Flavelle House and Falconer Hall, on the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto.
Your opportunity:
Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) is an award-winning education engagement and support program for high school students facing barriers to postsecondary access. Founded in 2005 by the HenryN.R. Jackman Faculty of Law, LAWS exposes program participants to legal thinking and the justice system through workshops, mentorship and employment programs. LAWS is a partnership between Jackman Law, Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, and the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University and is delivered at designated Toronto District School Board high schools.
Under the general direction of the LAWS Director, the incumbent is responsible for supporting program activities and providing administrative support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Liaising with contacts to ensure consistent administration procedures are followed
- Updating and maintaining records
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
- Tracking the financial status of accounts
- Writing routine documents and correspondence
- Generating reports
- Scanning, filing and copyingdocuments
- Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
Essential Qualifications:
- College diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
- Minimum two years of recent and related administrative experience, preferably within an education or community outreach setting
- Experience providing program and administrative support
- Experience with drafting correspondence and reports
- Experience reconciling and monitoring program accounts
- Experience editing promotional and informational content and maintaining information on digital platforms
- Experience coordinating logistical details and activities for events or programs
- Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Proven ability to exercise strong judgement, tact, initiative and diplomacy
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong commitment to accuracy with demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to organize work and successfully meet deadlines with competing priorities and interruptions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated commitment to postsecondary access, community outreach, and equity, diversity and inclusion
Assets (Nonessential):
- Familiarity with Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law policies and programs considered an asset
