Apply now Accessibility support The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is seeking a qualified individual to join our Criminal Analytical Support Team (CAST). In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will conduct tactical investigative analysis in support of Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) major cases. To review extensive amounts of electronic data and information from numerous sources to produce various analytical/intelligence products in support of CIB major cases.
Please note: The successful applicant will be required to report to the OPP worksite to perform their duties.

What you bring to the team
Mandatory Requirements• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE OF:
• Key issues associated with major crimes including homicides, criminally suspicious deaths, missing persons where foul play cannot be ruled out and other serious crimes.
• Criminal investigative techniques; analytical methodologies; The Intelligence Cycle and Major Case Management structure and policies; to perform targeted information analysis and the best practices used in the development of written reports.
• The necessary expertise to interpret information from investigative-specific computer software and apps used in the collection, analysis, and preparation of data from numerous electronic devices for presentation and to further the investigation.
• Methods to identify and handle sensitive information and appropriate procedures to protect and restrict its distribution to appropriate viewers.
• Tactical, operational, and strategic analytical methods, to integrate, synthesize and evaluate quantitative/qualitative data and information from multi-jurisdictional sources; to plan and design analytical approaches; and to prepare summary analyses of information from cross-jurisdictional sources.
• The use of computer applications, including word, data processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and analytical software to prepare analyses, documents/briefings and multi-media presentations; and the Internet to conduct research.
• Relevant sections of legislation such as the Criminal Code of Canada, Canada Evidence Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Police Orders, Community Safety and Policing Act and Ministry of Transportation.
• Major Case Management, Niche RMS, notetaking and writing techniques.
ABILITY TO:
• Travel anywhere in the Province of Ontario and elsewhere as required, at times for extended periods.
• Meet tight deadlines.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to present research findings to Major Case Managers and teams, make recommendations related to intelligence assessments, network with and act as a resource to cross-jurisdictional law enforcement and intelligence agencies, exchange information and analytical findings, discuss intelligence issues, participate in consultation processes, and provide support for coordinated intelligence operations.
• Written communications skills to draft presentations, reports, correspondence, briefing notes, and develops charts, graphs and supporting materials for use in court presentations by Crown Attorneys.
• Interpersonal skills to work well within a team environment and collaborate with peers to share and review products.
Problem Solving/Complexity• Superior analytical skills and creativity to design and prepare intelligence analytical reports, charts and profiles on persons relevant to the investigation.
• Identifies and analyzes trends, patterns, and series related to homicides and other major crimes/criminal investigations.
• Exercises sound judgment when providing recommendations regarding investigative/operational strategies to identify the criminal occurrences and effects of criminal trends and behaviour.
• Researches, assesses, and summarizes information from a range of sources to incorporate into proposed solutions/recommendations.
