Join the Asset Management Branch, Capital Planning and Programming Office (CPPO) to drive strategic highway expansion and rehabilitation programs. About the jobWe are seeking a results-oriented team player with strong analytical and interpersonal skills to help the Transportation Infrastructure Management Division's asset management team deliver on key objectives. Contribute to the regional capital program, ensuring provincial highway assets are well-maintained. Collaborate with engineering functional offices to identify asset expansion and rehabilitation needs, using both technical and financial skills. You'll work alongside a supportive team of experienced and knowledgeable colleagues, making a tangible impact on the ministry's infrastructure.
As part of the team, you will:
• develop and monitor investment strategies for Ontario's highway infrastructure
• collaborate with transportation professionals on capital and expansion programs
• determine transportation project requirements by field inspection, data analysis and engineering judgement
• prepare technical reports, develop and review business cases for projects including risk assessment and cost estimating for capital projects
• analyze program outcomes against business objectives and recommend strategy adjustments
• create materials for management, including briefing notes, presentations, correspondence, and reports
Note: Travel is required for this role, and most sites are not accessible by public transit; therefore, a valid driver's licence is necessary. What you bring to the team
Technical knowledge and financial skills:You have knowledge of:
• civil engineering theories, principles and practices with emphasis on transportation planning, highway engineering design, and construction
• project management principles related to infrastructure planning
• capital planning, business planning, performance measures, and infrastructure management for developing investment alternatives
• economics, finance, and budgeting and asset management practices to evaluate alternatives and create affordable infrastructure strategies
Analytical and problem-solving skills:You have:
• analytical skills to coordinate and develop infrastructure plans, conduct trade-off analysis, and produce listings of capital programs.
• experience interpreting and applying relevant legislation, policies, and standards to assess project proposals and technical documents
• ability to recommend alternative designs balancing economic benefit, risk and environmental impact
• problem solving skills to resolve complex issues within the ministry, with engineering consultants
Interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills:You can:
• present to different audiences including senior leaders
• write clear, concise and complex documents, like presentations and briefing notes
• collaborate with staff across departments and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
