Overview

Join AtkinsRéalis as a Senior Marine Structural Engineer within our Ports and Marine team in Western Canada. This role is focused on independent technical delivery with growing responsibility for coordinating and managing defined scopes of work. Senior engineers at this level may act as senior project managers for select small to mid‑sized projects or discrete work packages, while continuing to develop toward broader technical and leadership accountability as the team grows.

Your Role

Reports to: Team Lead, Ports and Marine – Western Canada:

  • Lead the design and independent checking of marine and port structures across all project phases.

  • Define design basis, criteria, and analysis approaches for marine infrastructure in varied environments.

  • Carry out and review advanced structural analyses, including soil–structure interaction and marine environmental loading.

  • Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, and tender documentation.

  • Apply QA/QC procedures to ensure compliant, high‑quality engineering deliverables.

  • Act as senior project manager or task manager for assigned projects or work packages, supporting scope, schedule, budget, risk, and change management.

  • Provide construction‑phase engineering support and resolve field issues with practical solutions.

  • Mentor intermediate and junior engineers through technical guidance and informal supervision.


About You
  • B.A.Sc./B.Eng. in Civil or Structural Engineering; P.Eng. (EGBC).

  • Approximately 7 to 11 years of experience delivering ports and marine structures.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound engineering judgment to complex marine structural challenges.

  • Proficiency in the design of reinforced concrete and steel marine structures.

  • Experience coordinating technical teams and managing defined scopes of work.

  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, or similar.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, coordination, and client interactions.

Expected compensation for this role is between $93,800 - $129,000 annually ($48.10 - $66.15/hour). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role.
