This Role:
We're building a product where AI isn't a feature bolted on the side — it's woven through every layer, from how the product is generated to how users experience it. We're looking for a Founding Engineer to take technical ownership of what's been built so far and lead it through its next chapters: shipping, scaling, and growing the team behind it.
You Will:
- Own the product surface end-to-end — from the FastAPI routers and services on the backend to the customer-facing UI Next.js on the frontend.
- Define how an AI-native team works and prove it by shipping. Establish the agent workflows, repo conventions, and review practices that let a small team with coding agents outship a much larger one; what you set up becomes how every future hire operates.
- Keep the codebase agent-legible: operating rules, architecture boundaries, and eval suites that make the repo as productive for agents as it is for humans — this is infrastructure here, not documentation hygiene.
- Choose and stand up the frontend stack. It's greenfield. You'll make the framework call (React, Next.js, Svelte — your recommendation, your rationale), establish the patterns, and build the foundation the team ships on.
- Build agentic, AI-native features end-to-end: surface LLM-generated decisions, evals, and rationale in interfaces that HR, hiring managers, and new hires trust.
- Build the dashboards and workflows on top of Talia's data — hire pipelines, manager checklists, mentor assignments, attrition signals, cost and impact views.
- Write production Python: async SQLAlchemy 2.0 / asyncpg / Postgres, Pydantic schemas, and the Temporal-orchestrated workflows behind the product experience.
* Ship fast. Take features from rough idea to in front of users, with strong instincts for what to build, what to cut, and what to defer.
* Make AI behavior legible to non-technical users — turn agentic decisions into UI that customers, and their compliance teams, can understand and act on.
- Sit in customer calls. Translate customer signal directly into product, in the same week.
- Hold the quality bar the codebase already sets — strong typing, enforced architecture boundaries, and high test coverage — on both sides of the stack.
- Help interview and mentor future hires as the team grows; set the frontend standards from day one.

Must Have Skills:
-Genuinely full-stack. You've shipped production features that you built from the database to the pixel, and you're equally credible in both places.
-Made a greenfield frontend-architecture call and lived with it — picked the framework and patterns, and were right enough that the team built on it happily.
-Strong Python on the backend — async web services (FastAPI, or Django/Flask with async), real ORM and database work, not just glue code.
-Strong modern frontend — a current component framework (React, Next.js, Svelte, Vue, or similar), state management, and an eye for UX and accessibility.
-Shipped product on top of an LLM or agentic system to real users — surfacing model output, handling latency and uncertainty, designing for when the AI is wrong.
-Product instincts. You can sit with a Head of Recruiting, hear the pain, and translate it into the codebase the same hour.
-High bar for craft. You care about the seams — typing, tests, and clean boundaries — even under startup speed.
-Excellent communicator who can translate between technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with Python and FastAPI specifically.
- Experience with Temporal (or comparable workflow orchestration platforms).
- Direct production experience with Anthropic, OpenAI, or other major model providers — including streaming responses and designing for agentic UX.
- Built evals or AI-transparency interfaces customers actually trust, not vanity dashboards.
- Background shipping AI-native products in regulated industries (healthcare, financial services, hiring).
- Design-system or component-library experience; comfort owning the look and feel of a young product.
- Open source contributions or technical writing in the web / AI space.
