The Host/Server Assistant role is a multifaceted role, combining all aspects of restaurant support. The Host/Server Assistant will be responsible for providing consistently high-levels of customer service to all restaurant guests by providing prompt service, and maintaining a strong working knowledge of all menu items, entertainment options, and any ongoing promotions. The Host/Server Assistant will also be responsible for delivering food and beverages to guests in multiple departments of the building, as well as clearing tables and the bar as soon as guests leave their seating.
The Host/ Server Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the food and beverages are being delivered at the correct temperature (hot is hot; cold is cold), presentable, and that nothing is missing from the plate, glass, platter, or the overall order. This will include bringing condiments to the table, utensils, and other items upon request. The Host/ Server Assistant will be working closely with Dishwashers to make sure that there are always clean plates and flatware for each table in the dining room and bar. The Host/ Server Assistant will also ensure liquor supplies, glassware and ice supplies are filled to sustain service levels at the bar. When required, the Host/ Server Assistant will obtain and deliver supplies as required by the Bar staff and Managers. When required, the Host/ Server Assistant will be required to change kegs in the walk-in fridge or portable bars if applicable.
The Host/Server Assistant performs these customer service duties in a friendly and professional manner at all times, and ensure that the guest has an enjoyable hospitality experience, in the dining room, bar, amusement floor, or Shed area.
Job Duties:
- Greet guests upon entry and ensure guest are comfortable navigating the dining areas, gaming areas, and other building amenities.
- Receive and record guests' reservations and assign tables.
- Greet guests at entrance of dining room and escort them to tables or other seating areas.
- Maintain familiarity with the composition of all menu items.
- Speak with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and attend to complaints.
- Let Rec Room leadership know about necessary dining room supplies and equipment
- Inspect dining and serving areas and equipment.
- Support and co-ordinate activities of food and beverage servers and other serving staff
- Clean agreed designated areas, in accordance with downtime procedures, morning/evening routines and hygiene requirements.
- Change table linen as required and ensure dirty or damaged linen is counted and exchanged for clean, usable items.
- At all times to be aware of and practice good customer relations, assisting the guest in any way which does not adversely affect other customers.
- Attend to customer complaints satisfactorily.
- Deliver prepared food to guests, ensuring the entire table's food arrives at the same time.
- Monitor food distribution, ensuring that meals have been prepared to the Rec Room standard and the Guest's specification, and is delivered to the correct guest by table and seat number.
- Deliver food items with appropriate condiments when required.
- Return food and drink items if a change or correction is required, and return the newly prepared item to the guest after the necessary changes have been made.
- Fill water glasses and refillable drinks.
- Collaborate with wait staff to ensure that tables are cleared, cleaned, and ready for the next party.
- Remove trays and stack dishes for return to the kitchen or bar after guests are finished.
- Assist with and maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant and bar areas, maintain clean appearances.
- Stock service stations with items such as ice, napkins, or straws.
- Provide assistance to the wait staff, bar staff and kitchen staff as needed.
- Maintain liquor and bar supplies during shift.
- Handle and move objects such as glasses and bottles.
- Change Kegs in the walk-in Bar fridge.
- Prepare bar beverage garnishes to recipe / as instructed.
- Assist in washing dishes if the kitchen staff gets behind during the busier times of the day.
- Arrange tables for large parties and prepare the banquet hall for scheduled gatherings.
- Ensure guest service is paramount during work hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
- 1-3 years of experience as a Server Assistant, Host, Runner, Barback, or Busser, or in a similar capacity considered an asset.
- Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Able to work in a high paced environment and to complete multiple tasks at one time.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Professional appearance and manners.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
Work Conditions:
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Interacts with employees, management and the public at large.
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Lifting or moving up to 50lbs may be required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Extended hours as required.
