Purpose
Worley is seeking a Senior Material Handling Engineer / Project Manager to provide senior-level mechanical engineering, materials handling, and project management expertise within the Mechanical and Materials Handling Group in Worley Consulting.

Based in Vancouver, BC, Worley office, the successful candidate will lead the delivery of materials handling and mechanical engineering projects across mining, ports and marine terminals, industrial, and related sectors. Responsibilities will include front-end studies, engineering design, equipment selection and sizing, site inspections, technical documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, project management, and client engagement.

The role requires strong technical leadership, independent engineering judgment, and the ability to manage engineering scopes from concept through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.

Responsibilities:

Working with clients, project managers, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will:

  • Lead functional, conceptual, and detailed engineering of materials handling and mechanical systems, including conveyors, transfer systems, bulk handling equipment, and loading/unloading facilities.
  • Lead equipment selection, sizing, layouts, design criteria, engineering calculations, and development of practical, constructible solutions.
  • Prepare, review, and approve specifications, scopes of work, technical reports, equipment datasheets, design criteria, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Provide technical oversight of vendor and subcontractor documentation, drawings, calculations, and equipment submissions.
  • Lead site inspections, equipment testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational assessments.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across mechanical, process, civil, structural, electrical, controls, and other disciplines.
  • Manage engineering work packages, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, quality, and deliverables.
  • Support proposals, estimates, work plans, project execution strategies, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to engineers and designers.
  • Identify technical risks and develop effective solutions to complex engineering and project issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Support business development, including client engagement, proposals, scope development, and opportunity identification.
  • Promote safety in engineering design and project execution.
  • Travel to project sites, client offices, and vendor facilities as required.

What You Will Bring
Technical and Industry Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant mechanical and materials handling engineering experience,
  • Extensive experience with bulk materials handling systems, including conveyors, transfer systems, loading/unloading systems, and associated equipment.
  • Experience in mining and/or mineral processing environments, ports, marine terminals, or other bulk material facilities is an asset.
  • Experience leading projects from front-end studies and conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Experience with equipment selection, sizing, engineering calculations, layouts, and development of practical materials handling solutions.
  • Familiarity with Discrete Element Method (DEM) modeling and its application to bulk materials handling is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering work packages and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing technical and procurement documentation.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, and deliverables.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, safety requirements, and industry practices.
  • Strong client-facing, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience providing technical direction and mentorship to engineers and designers.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

The Senior Material Handling Engineer / Project Manager will demonstrate strong technical leadership, accountability, and professional judgment. The successful candidate will independently manage complex engineering scopes, lead multidisciplinary teams, develop practical engineering solutions, communicate effectively with clients, and contribute to the continued growth of Worley’s materials handling capabilities.

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $140,687 to $200,223
Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
