Canada Life has an exciting opportunity for a Legal assistant to join our Litigation team. Reporting to the Associate Manager, Litigation Operations, you will provide administrative and practice support to a team of litigation professionals across our Canadian jurisdictions.
As part of this dynamic team, you will play a key role in supporting the effective management of litigation matters. You will build strong working relationships with lawyers, law clerks, and legal assistants while delivering organized, efficient, and timely support that contributes to the success of the team.
What you will do:
- Partner with litigation lawyers, senior law clerks, law clerks, and legal assistants to support in-house litigation practices
- Prepare, draft, and proofread correspondence, pleadings, court documents, and other legal materials
- Assist with the compilation, service, and filing of pleadings and legal documents
- Manage calendars, maintain diary systems, schedule and coordinate meetings
- Schedule court dates, mediations, independent medical examinations, surveillance, and other investigations
- Review and triage incoming legal documentation and ensure documents are accurately stored, classified, and maintained in accordance with Litigation practice guidelines
- Open, organize, and maintain legal files in matter management and document management systems
- Support litigation team operations through reporting, invoice processing, and other administrative activities
What you will bring:
- Legal Assistant Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2+ years of experience in a legal administrative role
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including exceptional proofreading abilities and attention to detail
- Knowledge of legal and court documents and procedures across Canada is an asset
- Self-motivated and effective working both independently and in a team setting
- Strong ability to self-manager, prioritize, organize work and meet deadlines
- Superior organizational and time management skills with experience managing competing priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and client service skills, with a professional and collaborative approach
- Proven ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Advanced ability to effectively use Microsoft Office programs and other role-related technology, including legal matter management and document management systems
- Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: London or Winnipeg. This role follows a hybrid work model, with an in-office presence required three days per week.

The base salary for this position is between $50,900 - $76,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
