Job Description: In collaboration with Physicians and the Primary Care Team, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services to several communities. This includes: health promotion and protection, disease and injury prevention, provision of supportive, instructive, treatment and emergency services; collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals; conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects. The incumbent reports to the Director of Primary Care for the Region.

Experience

  • Experience in community needs assessment/development, health promotion
  • 2 - 3 years experience as a Primary Care Nurse or Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • Three (3) years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP)

Licenses

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support Level C Certificate (BLS-C)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education and Training

  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or other trauma assessment course desired

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in community development
  • Ability to competently use computers and software applications
  • Works well as a team member & mentor, strong leadership & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a leader of a multidisciplinary team
  • Working knowledge in health promotion
  • Working knowledge of community needs assessment
  • Communication skills to provide/obtain verbal and/or written opinions/advice
