Anesthesiologist - Royal Columbian Hospital & Eagle Ridge Hospital

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) and Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH) is seeking dedicated and collegial Anesthesiologists to join our expanding team.

Our department operates as a unified regional group across both sites. Successful candidates will provide perioperative care across our diverse clinical slates, out-of-operating-room services, and on-call coverage. Subspecialty interest or fellowship training in neuroanesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, regional anesthesia/acute pain, high-risk obstetric anesthesia, or perioperative medicine is considered an asset. Other fellowships may be considered.

Clinical Faculty Appointments with the University of British Columbia (UBC) & Simon Fraser University (SFU) School of Medicine.

Academic Role, Teaching & Research Opportunities

As a designated teaching site affiliated with both UBC and the SFU School of Medicine, successful candidates will be eligible for clinical faculty appointments.

• Teaching Expectations: There is an active expectation of teaching and mentoring medical learners, including residents and medical students, in both bedside clinical workflows and structured academic environments.
• Research & Scholarly Inquiry: Candidates will have opportunities to participate in or lead clinical research, departmental quality improvement (QI) initiatives, and multicentre clinical trials aligned with their interests and expertise.

About the Department and Sites

Comprising over 50 physicians, our common department provides comprehensive perioperative, critical care, and acute pain services across two complementary tertiary and community environments:

• Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH): Located 20 minutes outside Vancouver, RCH is a premier Level 1 adult trauma and tertiary referral centre affiliated with UBC and SFU. It is the only hospital in British Columbia offering trauma, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, and acute mental health care on a single site. The multi-phase RCH Redevelopment Project is currently transforming the campus with state-of-the-art operative suites, expanded interventional capacity, and advanced critical care facilities.
• Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH): Situated in nearby Port Moody, ERH is a vibrant community hospital delivering high-volume elective and day surgical programs, regional rehabilitation, and 24/7 emergency services. Members of our department rotate through ERH as part of our integrated regional practice.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Anesthesiology, or eligible for FRCPC certification.
• Eligible for full, independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
• Eligibility for clinical faculty appointment with UBC and SFU.
• Post-residency fellowship training or demonstrated equivalent clinical expertise in a relevant subspecialty (or willingness to obtain fellowship training).

Open to all qualified Canadian and International Medical Graduates eligible for British Columbia licensure.
