Key Responsibilities

  • Cut, clean, and trim fish or seafood prior to marketing or further processing.
  • Scrape away scales, cut fish, separate fillets, and remove scrap parts using a knife.
  • Transport fish and shellfish to the work area.
  • Condition fish filets for wrapping or freezing.
  • Check products and packaging for defects to ensure conformance to company standards.
  • Disjoint and remove meat from lobsters or other crustaceans preparatory to canning or further processing.
  • Record production information accurately.
  • Set up and operate machines for canning, bagging, boxing, or packaging fish and seafood products.
  • Operate machines to clean, cut, cook, smoke, brine, dehydrate, or otherwise process fish or seafood products.
  • Weigh fish or shellfish, record weight, and pack fish in ice.
  • Clean machines and immediate work areas.
  • Measure and dump ingredients into hoppers of mixing and grinding machines.
  • Sort fish according to species, weight, and destination.

Work Environment

As a Seafood Preparer, you will work in a noisy, cold/refrigerated, and wet/damp environment. The role may also involve exposure to odours and dust.

Requirements

  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to handle repetitive tasks and heavy loads (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs).
  • Physically demanding work requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform bending, crouching, and kneeling.

Personal Suitability

  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.

Transportation and Tools

  • Own transportation is required.
  • Must have steel-toed safety boots, gloves, and a mask.
