About the role: The Special Projects and Programs Coordinator reports to the Manager of Recreation Services and is responsible for implementing an engaging, activity-based after-school/evening program and promoting physical activity and wellness, while developing strong connections with school representatives, families, and students. Additionally, this position plays a pivotal role in enhancing the community's recreational opportunities. This position focuses on planning, implementing, and evaluating unique recreational projects and initiatives that meet diverse needs. They will collaborate with various organizations, manage budgets, support the recreation department's Administrative Clerk, and ensure projects align with the municipality's strategic goals. The Coordinator is responsible for leading all marketing in the execution of their assigned projects, including social media engagement, graphic design, and other creative components.
This is a full-time temporary 6-month position, with potential for extension. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, with regular hours in the evenings and on weekends required.
Salary range: Range 2, $58,032- $68,982 annually

Education & experience required:
  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or two years equivalent work experience in Recreation, Human Services, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, with an emphasis on children and youth program planning and facilitation.
  • Experience leading physical activity and health and wellness initiatives.
  • Experience in marketing and/or graphic design is a strong asset.
  • Strong community outreach and public relations skills with the ability to liaise effectively with community partners and leaders.
  • Conditions of employment include a satisfactory criminal record check.
