BGC Martensville is seeking a highly motivated, energetic and experienced applicant for a term Nutrition Specialist role at our Martensville Early Learning Centre. This position requires the successful applicant to possess strong organization and planning skills as well experience in childhood nutrition and allergy food preparation.
Position DetailsThe Nutrition Specialist position is full time, 40-hour week (8-hour day), Monday to Friday. The Nutrition Specialist's primary responsibility is to work with children and staff in the development of healthy lifestyles and to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for the BGC Martensville Early Learning Centre (90 space centre).

CompensationWage is dependent on experience. Applicants who also possess a valid early childhood education certification from Saskatchewan may be eligible for an additional wage top up of 5.85-8.85 dollars per hour.

What You’ll DoThe Nutrition Specialist, when interacting with children will commit to:
- Treat children with respect, acceptance and honesty
- Interact with participants in a patient, interested, understanding and caring manner
- Promote feelings of competency and self-esteem
- Make children and youth feel physically and emotionally safe & secure
- Encourage responsible, safe and mutually respectful behavior through positive methods such as role-modeling, setting reasonable limits, providing choices and recognizing appropriate behavior
- Assist ECE’s in guiding inappropriate conduct by using positive guidance and behavior management practices
- Accommodate individual differences and make all children and youth feel equally welcome regardless of gender, race, culture, economic status or ability.
- Engage children in planning activities that provide opportunities to develop and enhance skills, based on their needs and wants
- Ensure the quality of the ELC by adhering to Provincial Licensing Regulations (which includes Health and Fire Regulations) as well as BGC Martensville Policies and Procedures regarding cleanliness, menu development and food preparation.
- Work in a team-based environment with BGCM ELC Managers and Staff, BGCM Office Staff
- Assist in preparing weekly menus approved by the ELC Business Administrator and/or Pedagogical Lead ensuring Provincial Licensing Standards are met.
- Prepare grocery lists and shop for ingredients and additional supplies as needed on a weekly basis.
- Maintain pantry inventory
- Ensuring all food allergies/dietary restrictions are accounted for in food preparation
- Ensure meals and snacks are prepared in a timely manner and using food safety practices in all food preparation.
- Engage families regarding nutrition practices and cultural preferences
- Involve children in food preparation and routines
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
- Early Childhood Education Level I Certificate (preferred, not required)
- Commercial kitchen experience (preferred, not required)
- Valid First Aid and CPR (within first 3 months of employment)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs
- All applicants must be eligible to work in Saskatchewan/Canada.
