Canadian Babbitt Bearings Ltd. is the North American leader in refurbishment, design, and manufacture of Babbitt bearings for the Hydro, Power Generation, and Marine markets. We were founded on the premise that there was a need for a specialized babbitt bearing manufacturer in North America, and since 1981, our focus on bearing production has made us one of the world’s most prominent babbitt bearing facilities.
As part of the RIC Group, you’ll be supported by a network of 19 companies and more than 500 skilled tradespeople across Canada, providing access to extensive manufacturing expertise and resources.Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Industrial Fitter / Mechanical Assembler will support bearing assembly and fitting work currently completed by machinists, allowing the machining team to remain focused on machining operations.
What You’ll Do• Assemble and disassemble industrial bearings and related components• Prepare bearings for machining, inspection, and customer witness inspections• Perform bedding and fitting of bearing components• Blue and check contact between mating surfaces• Install and remove hardware as required during assembly and fitting activities• Complete mechanical fitting, adjustment, and preparation of components• Read drawings and work to basic dimensional requirements• Support Production and Quality teams during assembly, inspection, and process improvement activities• Follow established health and safety practices, procedures, and regulations• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
What We’re Looking For• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fitting or assembly experience• Background as a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, Industrial Fitter, Mechanical Assembler, or similar trade is an asset• Experience working with industrial components, bearings, rotating equipment, machining, or manufacturing environments is preferred• Ability to read and interpret drawings and follow basic dimensional requirements• Comfortable using hand tools, fitting methods, measuring tools, and mechanical assembly practices• Detail-oriented approach with a focus on quality, accuracy, and safe work practices• Motivated, dependable, and able to learn specialized bearing assembly and fitting processes• Licensed Millwright certification is not required; equivalent hands-on mechanical experience will be considered
