Electronics Manufacturing Technician Reports To: Production Manager, ABUDepartment: Assembly Business Unit (ABU)Location: Collingwood, ONJob Type: Full-time PermanentSalary: $52,000.00 - $67,000.00 (based on education and previous work experience)Work Schedule: 7:00am – 3:30pm ET with a 30 minute unpaid lunch.Posting Deadline Date: Friday, September 11, 2026
SUMMARY: The Electronics Manufacturing Technician is a skilled hands-on role supporting the manufacture of Thin Line Towed Array products and acoustic products with active electronics. This position is intended for someone who can execute precision assembly processes, learn novel manufacturing methods, troubleshoot issues, and work with a reasonable level of autonomy in a prototype and low-volume production environment.
The role includes soldering, precision wiring, bonding, encapsulation, electronics integration, computer-assisted testing, data entry, and technical documentation. The successful candidate will support both prototype builds and mature product builds, while helping engineering and production improve work instructions, fixtures, tooling concepts, and repeatability of manufacturing processes. RESPONSIBILITIES:Precision Assembly and Integration· Perform complex assemblies involving hydrophones, transducers, acoustic sensing components, and multi-conductor cable assemblies.· Assemble electronics modules, PCBs, connectors, fine wires, shielded cables, and related electromechanical components.· Support oil-filled hose integration, sealing systems, routing, strain relief, and final assembly of acoustic products.· Execute critical chemical processes, including bonding, potting, and encapsulation using epoxies and polyurethanes.· Handle delicate components with excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and care for product traceability.Electrical and Electronic Integration· Solder fine-pitch components, wires, cable shields, connectors, and small electromechanical assemblies.· Troubleshoot wiring continuity, impedance issues, intermittent faults, connector defects, solder defects, and assembly nonconformances.· Use oscilloscopes, LCR meters, multimeters, hipot testers, custom test fixtures, and computer-assisted test systems.· Read and follow schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, test procedures, and work instructions with minimal supervision.· Conduct intermediate and final acceptance tests using specialized instrumentation and defined acceptance criteria.Technical Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement· Identify manufacturing issues, communicate observations clearly, and propose practical corrective actions.· Assist engineering and production in root cause investigations, corrective actions, preventive actions, and process improvement trials.· Participate in prototype evaluations, first-time builds, and small-batch production where documentation may still be evolving.· Help develop, validate, and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, fixtures, tooling concepts, and inspection methods.· Escalate risks or unclear requirements early, while helping convert lessons learned into repeatable production practice.Documentation and Computer-Based Tasks· Record build data, traceability logs, test results, inspection results, and process observations using computer systems.· Support updates to in-process documentation, production travelers, work instructions, checklists, and visual aids.· Assist with drafting assembly procedures during early production phases and contribute feedback that improves clarity and repeatability.· Maintain accurate records in accordance with internal quality requirements and ISO 9001 controls.Quality, Safety, and Compliance· Perform in-process inspections, visual checks, dimensional checks where applicable, and acceptance criteria verification.· Follow ESD, chemical handling, PPE, curing, cleanliness, and safety requirements for electronics and encapsulation processes.· Maintain clean, organized, and controlled manufacturing work areas.· Support nonconformance identification, containment, rework documentation, and quality improvement activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:Required Education and Experience· Diploma or certificate in electronics, electromechanical technology, mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing technology, or equivalent practical experience.· Minimum 2 - 4 years of experience in electronics assembly, electromechanical assembly, cable harnessing, sensor manufacturing, marine electronics, or similar technical assembly work.· Experience reading schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, work instructions, or test procedures.· Experience using electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, LCR meters, hipot testers, or custom fixtures.· Comfortable with computer-based data entry, digital work instructions, test records, and traceability systems.Required Skills· Strong fine soldering capability and the ability to inspect solder joints for workmanship quality.· Ability to assemble, bond, pot, crimp, wire, seal, and test components to tight tolerances.· Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, and process-related defects.· Ability to learn new processes, ask clear technical questions, and work independently after training.· High attention to detail, strong manual dexterity, careful documentation habits, and good communication with production, quality, and engineering teams.Preferred Assets· IPC training or certification.· Experience with potting, bonding, encapsulation, epoxies, polyurethanes, sealants, or controlled curing processes.· Experience with oil-filled hose systems, marine electronics, cable assemblies, acoustic sensors, transducers, or hydrophones.· Experience with shielded cable assemblies, or high-reliability wiring practices.· Familiarity with SolidWorks, CAD viewers, basic fixture concepts, or technical drawing markups.· Programming, scripting, test automation, data analysis, or database experience is an asset.· Experience building first-time or prototype products from incomplete or evolving documentation is highly desirable.
