Organization Overview

POSITION SUMMARY The IT Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day technical operations, infrastructure management, cybersecurity enforcement, and escalated end-user support across all Richmond Christian School campuses. This role ensures the stability, security, and performance of all core systems that support teaching, learning, and administration. Working under the direction of the IT Manager and overseeing the IT Technician, the IT Administrator serves as the senior technical escalation point (Tier 3) and hands-on systems specialist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Infrastructure & Network Operations
- Oversee and maintain campus-wide network infrastructure, including wireless systems, switches, servers, firewalls, and internet connectivity.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of all core IT systems across all three campuses.
- Support infrastructure planning, upgrades, and implementation in collaboration with the IT Manager.
- Monitor system health, performance, and capacity; proactively address issues.
- Manage cross-platform endpoints including Windows, macOS, and iOS devices.
- Administer Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems (Microsoft Intune and JAMF).
- Set policy and standards for device provisioning, configuration, deployment, enrollment, and lifecycle management.
- Delegate hands-on device setup and deployment to the IT Technician; provide oversight and quality assurance.
- Maintain endpoint compliance standards and security configurations.
Microsoft 365 & Identity Management
- Administer Microsoft 365 A5 environment and associated cloud services.
- Manage Microsoft Entra ID, including Conditional Access, identity governance, MFA, and SSO.
- Oversee user account provisioning, licensing, permissions, and access controls.
Cybersecurity & Data Protection
- Implement cybersecurity strategy as directed by the IT Manager; serve as primary responder for security incidents.
- Maintain endpoint protection using Microsoft Defender and related security tools.
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to security alerts and incidents; escalate to IT Manager as appropriate.
- Maintain email security, anti-phishing controls, and mail flow protection rules.
- Ensure secure backup systems and validate automated backup schedules for critical systems.
- Coordinate disaster recovery testing in partnership with the IT Manager.
- Ensure responsible handling of student and staff data in compliance with FOIPPA and school data governance policies.
Technical Support & Service Delivery (Tier 3 Escalation)
- Serve as Tier 3 escalation support for complex infrastructure, network, and system issues referred by the IT Technician.
- Provide direct technical support for high-priority or sensitive issues affecting administration.
- Oversee IT ticketing system; review Technician workload and ensure timely resolution across tiers.
- Establish onboarding and offboarding workflows; delegate execution to the IT Technician.
Systems, Documentation & Operations
- Maintain accurate documentation for infrastructure, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Oversee classroom technology standards, phone systems, and instructional technology tools.
- Ensure consistent uptime, reliability, and operational continuity of IT services across campuses.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with the IT Manager on strategic planning, infrastructure design, and technology initiatives.
- Support implementation of approved technology projects and upgrades.
- Research and recommend improvements in tools, systems, and workflows.
- Provide after-hours or on-call availability as reasonably required for planned maintenance or critical outages.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to support school website maintenance and updates.
- Serve as backup website editor when required; delegate routine web edits to IT Technician where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS Required
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Networking, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of systems administration or IT infrastructure experience.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams), Entra ID, and Intune.
- Proficiency with network infrastructure (firewalls, switches, wireless, VLANs).
- Familiarity with endpoint management across Windows, macOS, and iOS platforms.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; ability to work independently under pressure.
- Agreement with and commitment to Richmond Christian School's Christian mission and values.
Preferred / Assets
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert or equivalent.
- JAMF Certified Admin or equivalent Apple MDM certification.
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+ certification.
- Experience working in a K-12 or independent school environment.
- Familiarity with FOIPPA and BC student data privacy requirements.
ON-CALL & SCHEDULING This is a full-time, 12-month role. Some after-hours availability is expected for planned maintenance windows, infrastructure upgrades, or critical system outages. On-call expectations will be clearly defined and reasonable, and will be discussed at time of hire. Campus travel across all three RCS locations is a regular requirement of this role.
