Job OverviewClearBlue's Advisory business helps industrial emitters manage their carbon positions across compliance and voluntary markets — pairing our award-winning advisory expertise with the ClearBlue Vantage Position Optimization platform. We help clients minimize compliance costs, identify monetization and funding opportunities, model decarbonization pathways, and manage carbon as a financial exposure across multiple jurisdictions and facilities. Our enterprise clients operate across all North American and European carbon markets including the EU-ETS, UK ETS, Western Climate Initiative, Alberta TIER, Ontario EPS, both Canadian federal and provincial/territorial OBPS regimes — often several at once, with different mechanics, deadlines, and market dynamics in each.We are seeking an Associate, Advisory to be the operational owner of enterprise client accounts. This is the person who runs an account every day: coordinating everything moving through it, leading the client relationship at working and management level, and delivering high quality strategic consulting day in and day out. You will lead project teams internally, work alongside the Advisory Managers and the VP, Global Advisory on commercial outcomes, and will also own a number of subscription clients outright. This is not your typical account manager role; you will be accountable to deliver high quality strategic advice and guidance for some of the largest industrial companies in the world.
What makes this role unique
- Real operational ownership of enterprise accounts at the award-winning advisor in carbon markets — voted Best Advisory by Environmental Finance multiple years running
- Lead complex, multi-jurisdiction client work across the full range of carbon compliance programs
- Combine hands-on client advisory with a market-leading SaaS platform (ClearBlue Vantage)
- Direct exposure to senior client stakeholders and to the commercial side of ClearBlue’s business — supporting contract renewals, scoping, and account expansion
- Work at the intersection of regulatory strategy, carbon market intelligence, and commercial value for some of the world's largest industrial emitters
- Act as the day-to-day operational lead for a set of enterprise accounts — coordinating and delivering all recurring work across position updates, compliance deadlines, regulatory filings, and reporting cycles
- Lead regular client meetings: set the agenda, run the room, and follow through
- Prioritize incoming client requests against capacity, and coordinate the internal team — Advisory Analysts, transaction support staff, and market intelligence colleagues — to deliver them
- Own timelines and deadlines across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring on-time delivery.
- Develop recommendations on compliance strategy, procurement timing, allocation optimization, and forward exposure and present them to the client yourself
- Support the delivery cadence of quarterly Carbon Market Updates & Position Assessments, scenario modelling, and decarbonization cost-benefit analysis
- Translate Vantage position data and ClearBlue market intelligence into decisions clients can act on, and maintain data integrity across your accounts
- Have a hand in the ongoing development of Vantage Position Optimization, ensuring the software delivers ongoing value to our clients
- Build trusted relationships with your clients' managers and senior managers
- Support the Manager, Advisory and the VP, Global Advisory on renewal preparation, scoping, budgeting, and identifying client expansion opportunities
- Own the relationship with a number of subscription clients outright
- Strong client management instincts — you have been the person leading client calls, not only the person who supported them
- Able to run multiple concurrent workstreams across several accounts without losing detail or missing deadlines
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with genuine comfort working in data-heavy tools; you will work in Vantage daily and need to stand behind the numbers
- Clear written and verbal communication with senior audiences — able to explain a complex regulatory position to someone without time for the full detail
- Sound judgment on when to solve a problem yourself and when to escalate
- Collaborative and generous with colleagues; you will be directing and reviewing the work of Analysts
- Curious and quick to learn — carbon market regulation changes constantly and we expect you to stay ahead of it
- Approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience in client advisory, consulting, professional services
- Demonstrated experience owning client relationships independently, including leading recurring client meetings and managing expectations
- Working knowledge of at least one carbon compliance program — the EU-ETS, UK ETS, the Western Climate Initiative, Alberta TIER, Ontario EPS, Canadian federal and provincial/territorial OBPS regimes — and the ability to get up to speed quickly on the rest
- Experience coordinating internal teams or directing the work of more junior colleagues
- Industry experience in carbon, energy, commodities, sustainability, or financial services is highly valued
- Experience with carbon and/or energy commodity transactions, procurement, or trading is an asset
- Professional fluency in French is an asset
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant professional experience
