Food Safety Consultant

The Food Safety Consultant will work on a variety of food safety and HACCP-related projects in a fast-paced environment. This role supports the Director of Food Safety and HACCP Services while independently managing other consulting assignments. Responsibilities include conducting reassessments and internal audits for clients ranging from raw meat processors to food contact packaging manufacturers. Key Responsibilities

• Assist domestic CFIA (SFCR)-licensed and non-CFIA-licensed food processors, as well as international clients, with PCP, BRC, and SQF HACCP program implementation and maintenance.
• Analyze client operations and relevant markets or industries.
• Identify market opportunities, analyze trends, conduct feasibility studies, and contribute to business plans and sales strategies.
• Collaborate on various projects and provide regular updates and support to clients and team members.
• Participate in on-site client audits.
• Research and gather food safety information for food processing facilities and present findings in group settings.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Formal training in GFSI (SQF or BRC) internal auditing and HACCP is required.
• In-depth knowledge and experience in the meat industry (slaughter, processing, retail) and other food production sectors.
• Strong understanding of the current regulatory environment, including Safe Food for Canadians regulations.
• Ability to create and review technical documents, such as project plans and test procedures.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or the ability to learn it.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
• Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• At least three years of hands-on experience in the food industry or a related field in a similar role.

Compensation range: $65,000 - $80,000 per year Your compensation within this range will depend on your skills, experience, and qualifications.
