Hopewell Development is looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead the next chapter of our HR function across our Canadian and U.S. teams.The foundation is in place. Now we are looking for a confident, practical HR leader who can own the function internally, support leaders, strengthen consistency, and keep people practices aligned with the realities of a growing operational business.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the HR Manager will be a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, balancing employee support with sound judgment, risk awareness, and business needs. What You’ll DoIn this role, you will lead the day-to-day HR function while continuing to strengthen practical, consistent, and business-aligned people practices across Hopewell.
You will:
- Provide practical HR advice to senior leaders, managers, and employees
- Manage employee relations matters, workplace concerns, investigations, performance issues, and documentation
- Support recruitment, onboarding, job descriptions, interview processes, offers, reference checks, and candidate experience
- Partner with construction, field, and safety leaders on HR-related health and safety matters, including fitness-for-work, medical documentation, workplace incidents, and compliance support
- Lead performance management processes and coach leaders on feedback, accountability, documentation, and employee communication
- Maintain and improve HR policies, employment templates, procedures, and workplace expectations
- Coordinate Canada and U.S. HR matters with legal, payroll, benefits, and other external advisors
- Support compensation planning, salary reviews, benefits administration, EAP communication, and employee programs
- Manage leaves, accommodations, modified work, and return-to-work processes
- Oversee employee records, HRIS data, HR reporting, and HR workflows
- Support resignations, layoffs, terminations, offboarding, and employment risk management
- Build HR visibility and trust across office and field teams
We’re looking for someone with:
- 7 to 10 years of progressive HR experience
- Experience as a senior generalist, HR Business Partner, or HR Manager
- Strong employee relations, performance management, recruitment, policy, accommodation, and compliance experience
- Working knowledge of Alberta employment standards, human rights, privacy, occupational health and safety, and employment risk
- Experience supporting HR matters across Canada and the U.S., considered an asset
- Experience working with legal counsel, payroll providers, benefits providers, and external advisors
- CPHR designation, strongly preferred
- Experience in construction, real estate development, property development, professional services, or another operational business environment, considered an asset
- Experience managing HR independently or as the senior HR resource in an organization
- Experience using or implementing an HRIS, applicant tracking system, or other HR technology, considered an asset
