Role Overview:The Field Instrumentation & Electrical (E&I) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, automation, SCADA, communication, and safety systems associated with upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities. The role ensures reliable operation of production equipment, regulatory compliance, and safe facility operations through preventative and corrective maintenance activities. Key Responsibilities: Instrumentation Maintenance and Troubleshooting• Install, inspect, maintain, calibrate, and repair process instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration, and analytical devices. • Troubleshoot and diagnose failures in field instrumentation, transmitters, switches, control valves, actuators, and associated control systems. • Perform loop checks, commissioning, and functional testing of new and existing instrumentation. • Interpret and utilize P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and control narratives.• Investigate process upsets and equipment malfunctions to determine root cause and implement corrective actions. Electrical Systems• Maintain and troubleshoot low-voltage electrical systems, motor control circuits, power distribution equipment, MCCs, VFDs, generators, and associated field equipment.• Troubleshoot electrical faults, grounding issues, and control circuit failures. • Ensure all electrical work complies with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures. SCADA, Control Systems, and Communications• Maintain, troubleshoot, and support SCADA systems, PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and associated automation infrastructure. • Diagnose and resolve communication failures involving radio networks, cellular systems, satellite systems, Ethernet networks, fiber optics, and serial communications. • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP, and other field communication systems. • Verify data integrity and communications between field devices, control systems, and central monitoring facilities. • Support system upgrades, software updates, and control system modifications. Metering and Calibration• Perform inspection, verification, calibration, and troubleshooting of oil, gas, and water metering systems. • Calibrate flow computers, transmitters, chart recorders, gas chromatographs, and associated measurement equipment. • Conduct meter proving activities and ensure measurement accuracy meets regulatory and company requirements. • Maintain calibration records and measurement documentation. Safety Systems and Shutdown Devices• Perform scheduled testing, inspection, calibration, and maintenance of Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems. • Conduct functional testing and verification of shutdown devices, pressure safety switches, level shutdowns, fire and gas detection systems, and related safety equipment. • Verify shutdown logic, trip settings, alarm functions, and interlock operation. Document shutdown testing results and ensure compliance with regulatory and operational requirements. Preventative Maintenance• Execute preventative maintenance programs on instrumentation, electrical, automation, and communication equipment. • Maintain equipment history and work order documentation using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). • Recommend reliability improvements and participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Health, Safety, and Environmental• Adhere to all company, client, and regulatory health, safety, and environmental requirements. • Participate in hazard assessments, permit systems, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices. • Ensure work is completed in compliance with industry standards and operational procedures. Qualifications:• Journeyperson Instrumentation and Control Technician, Instrument Mechanic, or equivalent trade certification. • Experience in oil and gas production facilities, pipelines, compressor stations, gas plants, or processing facilities. • Strong knowledge of instrumentation, electrical systems, PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, and industrial communications. • Experience with meter calibration, flow measurement systems, and custody transfer equipment. • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical, instrumentation, automation, and communication systems. • Proficient in reading technical drawings, electrical schematics, and control documentation. • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote field locations.
