ADVANCED ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN Reports To: Production Manager, ABUDepartment: Assembly Business Unit (ABU)Location: Collingwood, ONJob Type: Full-time permanentSalary Range: $55,000 - $80,000Posting Deadline: July 3, 2026 SUMMARY: The Advanced Assembly Technician is a new role and is a skilled technical role that supports the manufacturing of the Thin Line Towed Array product line and acoustic products with active electronics. This position requires strong hands-on assembly capability, above-average technical aptitude, and the ability to learn novel processes involving electronics, precision wiring, encapsulation, and system integration.The role includes complex operations, such as electronics troubleshooting, computer-assisted testing, data entry, and technical documentation. The technician will support prototype builds as well as mature product builds. RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform complex assemblies involving:· Hydrophones, transducers and acoustic sensing components with multi-conductor cable assemblies· Electronics modules, PCBs, and connectors· Oil-filled hose integration and sealing systems· Execute critical chemical processes, including bonding and encapsulation using epoxies and polyurethanes.· Conduct intermediate and final acceptance tests using specialized instrumentation.Electrical & Electronic Integration· Solder fine-pitch components, wires, and shielded cables.· Troubleshoot wiring continuity, impedance issues, intermittent faults, or assembly defects.· Use oscilloscopes, LCR meters, multimeters, hipot testers, and custom test fixtures.· Follow work instructions and schematics with minimal supervision.Technical Problem Solving· Identify manufacturing issues, propose corrective actions, and communicate with engineering.· Assist in root cause investigations and implement corrective / preventive actions.· Participate in prototype evaluations and continuous improvement trials.Documentation & Computer-Based Tasks· Record build data, traceability logs, and inspection results using computer systems.· Update in-process documentation and contribute to work instruction improvements and tooling designs.· Support drafting of assembly procedures during early production phases.
Quality & Compliance· Ensure assembly steps comply with internal quality standards and ISO 9001 controls.· Perform in-process inspections, visual checks, and acceptance criteria verification.· Maintain clean manufacturing environments and follow ESD and safety procedures. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Training· Diploma in electronics, electromechanical, mechanical engineering, or equivalentexperience· Experience in electronics assembly, electromechanical assembly, cable harnessing, sensor manufacturing, or similar.· Experience reading schematics, wiring diagrams, or technical drawings.· Experience using electronic test equipment.Skills· Proficient in fine soldering and solder inspection standards (IPC training an asset).· Ability to assemble, pot, bond, crimp, and test components to tight tolerances.· Computer-based data entry and digital work instructions.· Troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical defects.· Preferred experience with oil-filled hose systems, marine electronics, cable assemblies, fiber optic cable work, or acoustic sensors.· Preferred familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD.
