RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES Major Responsibility 1: Program Delivery
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate tennis lessons, drills, and recreational activities.
- Teach tennis fundamentals, including stroke development, footwork, game strategy, and sportsmanship.
- Adapt activities to accommodate participants with varying skill levels and abilities.
- Monitor participant progress and provide constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Build positive relationships with children, youth, and families.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
- Encourage participation, teamwork, confidence, and personal development.
- Act as a positive role model for participants.
- Follow all BGC Ottawa policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Ensure courts, equipment, and activity areas are safe and appropriately maintained.
- Supervise participants at all times and respond appropriately to incidents or concerns.
- Support emergency procedures and complete incident reporting as required.
- Maintain attendance records and support program documentation as required.
- Assist with equipment setup, inventory, and storage.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program evaluations as required.
Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience playing tennis and a strong understanding of tennis fundamentals, rules, and techniques.
- Experience teaching, coaching, instructing, mentoring, or working with children and youth is preferred.
- Formal tennis certification (Tennis Canada, TPA, or equivalent) is considered an asset but is not required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead groups and deliver engaging recreational programming.
- Obtain a Vulnerable Police Record Check.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.

- Strong knowledge of tennis techniques and game play.
- Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate tennis skills to beginners and intermediate players.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
