Senior Youth Worker – Tennis Instructor

GENERAL SUMMARYReporting directly to the Clubhouse Manager, the Senior Youth Worker – Tennis Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering safe, engaging, and inclusive tennis programming for children and youth of varying ages and skill levels. The primary focus of this role is to teach fundamental tennis skills, foster participant development and confidence, and create a positive recreational experience for all participants. This position is 40 hours per week for 2 weeks in July (July 6-10 & July 20-24) JOB PURPOSE SUMMARYThe Senior Youth Worker – Tennis Instructor leads tennis lessons, drills, games, and skill-development activities while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. The Instructor serves as a positive role model, encourages active participation, and adapts programming to meet the needs and abilities of participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES Major Responsibility 1: Program Delivery

• Plan and deliver age-appropriate tennis lessons, drills, and recreational activities.
• Teach tennis fundamentals, including stroke development, footwork, game strategy, and sportsmanship.
• Adapt activities to accommodate participants with varying skill levels and abilities.
• Monitor participant progress and provide constructive feedback and encouragement.

Major Responsibility 2: Participant Engagement and Development

• Build positive relationships with children, youth, and families.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
• Encourage participation, teamwork, confidence, and personal development.
• Act as a positive role model for participants.

Major Responsibility 3: Health, Safety and Risk Management

• Follow all BGC Ottawa policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Ensure courts, equipment, and activity areas are safe and appropriately maintained.
• Supervise participants at all times and respond appropriately to incidents or concerns.
• Support emergency procedures and complete incident reporting as required.

Major Responsibility 4: Program Administration and Teamwork

• Maintain attendance records and support program documentation as required.
• Assist with equipment setup, inventory, and storage.
• Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program evaluations as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience playing tennis and a strong understanding of tennis fundamentals, rules, and techniques.
• Experience teaching, coaching, instructing, mentoring, or working with children and youth is preferred.
• Formal tennis certification (Tennis Canada, TPA, or equivalent) is considered an asset but is not required.
• Demonstrated ability to lead groups and deliver engaging recreational programming.
• Obtain a Vulnerable Police Record Check.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.
