The RoleAIM is a deep-tech startup building advanced high-power laser systems to protect people from weaponised drones. We are seeking highly motivated Computer Vision Engineering Interns based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
At AIM, you will be working with our Engineering and R&D team to create training data and develop machine learning models for use in tomorrow’s defence technology.
The Commitment We are looking for candidates who are available immediately on a full-time basis and are able to work effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
Compensation is $30 per hour.
Due to clearance and security requirements, this role is only open to Canadian Citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
What You’ll do
  • Prepare machine-learning training and validation datasets using real-world image and video data
  • Develop software to simplify and automate manual steps of the training process
  • Analyse model performance using quantitative metrics (e.g. precision, recall, latency) and iterate to improve robustness and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, and R&D) to integrate with our laser platform
  • Document experiments, methodologies, and results clearly to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure work is delivered to a high standard, meets timelines, and results in production-ready software deliverables

What You’ll bring
  • At least 2 years of computer science, computer engineering, or mechatronics engineering education (i.e. 3rd year students and above)
  • You’ve taken courses in, or have worked with, neural networks and machine learning
  • Experience (educational or professional) with at least one of the following programming languages: C, C++, Python, or Go
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
