Job OverviewOur W.E.S.O.A.R! (Weekend, Evening, Social Opportunities, Activities and Recreation) programs offer a variety of different activities including, but not limited to, movies, bowling, swimming, music and more. W.E.S.O.A.R! Programs are quadrant specific, so you are sure to find a program that suits your interests in your area.As a Program Leader, you'll lead small groups of Youth and Adults participants through safe, engaging, and inclusive activities in the community. You will be supported by Program Volunteers and report directly to the Program Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of community-based programs for up to 8 participants.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment at all times.
  • Adapt activities to meet the individual needs of participants.
  • Support the administration of medications and personal care needs (training provided).
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or behavioral escalations (training provided).
  • Maintain consistent communication with caregivers and Between Friends staff.
  • Submit attendance and report any concerns to the Program Coordinator.
  • Attend all required training and team meetings (approx. 3 per season).

Time Requirements
  • Contracts span until the end of 2026, with Program Leaders required to commit to at least one full program session (Winter, Summer, or Fall)
  • One program has a weekly commitment of 3-5 hours (possibility of running multiple programs for successful candidates seeking more hours)
  • Attend Program Leader meetings (held 2-3 times a session on Monday evenings or Saturday mornings)
  • Programs run Tuesday through Sunday in the Winter and Fall, Sunday through Thursday in the Summer
  • Leaders must have their own personal cell phone and use this cell phone during program hours, as required

Job Requirements
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must pass a Screening Process including 2 personal reference checks and an Enhanced Canadian Criminal Record Check
  • Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Leaders must have their own cell phone for use during program hours, as required
  • Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, medication administration, and personal care support. Training will be provided.
  • Previous experience in the following would be considered an asset:
  • Working with people with disabilities.
  • Developing and implementing programming.
  • Experience in managing crisis situations in a team setting.
