Position Overview
Primary Responsibilities
- Communicate with clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams to define project requirements and conduct supporting research.
- Assist the project services group with planning structural activities and managing scope, budget, and schedule for the structural discipline.
- Develop construction specifications, engineering procedures, and structural work packages in accordance with CSA and NBC codes.
- Perform structural design in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber, ensuring compliance with applicable NBC and CSA standards.
- Support structural and mechanical designers with layouts and the development of intelligent 3D models.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor construction work schedules.
- Conduct feasibility studies and contribute to the preparation of capital cost estimates.
- Prepare project documentation and participate in tender reviews and evaluations for construction projects.
- Review and approve work completed by structural designers and engineers, ensuring quality and technical accuracy.
- Assist in developing and improving standards, processes, and best practices within the structural group.
- Perform field services, including site inspections and construction support for structural works.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- P.Eng. registration with APEGS or another Canadian provincial engineering association.
- 5 to 8 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry, timber and building design codes (e.g., CSA S16, CSA A23, CSA S304, CSA O86, NBC).
- Experience with STAAD Pro or other commercial structural design software.
- Experience in heavy industrial environments (brownfield and greenfield) is an asset.
- Mining industry experience, particularly in potash or uranium, is considered an asset.
- Experience in the nuclear industry is considered an asset.
- Experience in Connection design is considered an asset.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) using commercial software packages is an asset.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
- Comfortable working in mining and heavy industrial environments for data gathering and site meetings.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, multidisciplinary environment.
- Valid driver’s license is an asset.
