SUMMARY OF POSITIONAs a member of the Thresholds team, the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator will share in providing intensive treatment, rehabilitation and support, based on an individualized support plan developed with the client. They will complete a thorough assessment with each individual and work in collaboration with the individual’s assigned case manager to provide therapeutic recreation intervention. The Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator will also share on-call after hour crisis intervention and participate in the coordination and organization of daily team activities. Furthermore the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator takes a lead role in supporting clients to improve their quality of life by participating in meaningful recreational activities that enhance health. Specifically, they assess with clients their potential to enhance their social and leisure activities, provide personalized counseling and support, develops and evaluates group/individualized programs, identifies recreation opportunities in the community and provides consultation to other team members. HOURS OF WORKThe Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator will work a thirty-five (35) hour week, the hours being flexible to the needs of the staff, clients and the program. The position will participate in the Agency’s on-call service rotation as staff on-call. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide recreation and leisure education assessments/one-on-one intervention based on professional requirements.
  • Provide personalized support and counseling to develop group and/or individualized programs for clients.
  • Identify, form and maintain community partnerships for enhanced resources and improved programming opportunities.
  • Assume leadership of team activities that support clients to enhance their functioning relating to social and leisure activities.
  • Provide on-call rotation crisis intervention covering evening, night and weekend hours.
  • Actively participate in general household activities and overall program planning.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have previously demonstrated experience, skills, knowledge and expertise usually acquired through a combination of a College Diploma or Degree with specialization in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies, or a degree in an alternate allied health discipline with a postgraduate certificate in Recreation Therapy.
  • 2 – 5 years’ experience in a community mental health setting working with adults recovering from serious mental illness.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention; suicide risk assessment preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in applying principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery models.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within the organization’s mission and values.
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, CRMS for documentation purposes.
  • Willing to travel extensively within the Kitchener and Guelph area.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, relevant insurance and use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Able to successfully complete and provide a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
