Role Overview
The Senior Developer is responsible for driving the end-to-end software development lifecycle, collaborating across functional teams to transform business requirements into technical solutions. This includes managing development processes, leading quality assurance activities, overseeing support functions, and preparing design specifications.
The role supports system design, provides guidance on security requirements, and troubleshoots business systems and service applications. It requires deep expertise in algorithms, data structures, programming languages, tools, standards, and software platforms to deliver high-quality technology solutions aligned with business needs.
• Translate user requirements into technical specifications through analysis, conceptualization, and facilitation of technical requirements.
• Analyze, develop, test, implement, and document software solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault resolution of system and core software components.
• Ensure code and configurations meet security, logging, error-handling, performance, and other non-functional requirements.
• Evaluate new technologies and assess their impact on processes, data, systems, and risk.
• Follow release management standards and apply version control practices.
• Assist in the interpretation and documentation of client requirements.
• Provide specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support.
• Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and resolve problems within established guidelines.
• Work independently and manage non-routine situations effectively.

Testing and Quality Assurance:
• Work toward delivering defect-free software.
• Ensure systems meet functional requirements, align with architecture standards, and promote the reuse of common assets.
Production Support:
• Support the resolution of production issues and incidents.
• Recommend improvements to BMO processes and systems.
Key Accountabilities:
• Partner, communicate, and negotiate with stakeholders to gather business and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver solutions that meet business and customer needs.
• Develop an understanding of organizational complexity and engage appropriate teams to support solution delivery.
• Decompose business requirements into detailed design specifications and code.
• Assess solution options and recommend appropriate technical approaches.
• Independently perform root-cause analysis, solution design, coding, testing, documentation, and implementation activities.
• Support production issues through investigation, diagnosis, and resolution.
• Recommend or automate processes to improve operational efficiency and system integration.
• Promote adherence to software development lifecycle standards and best practices.
• Manage project deliverables and support the successful completion of small projects.
• Drive process improvements aligned with ITIL guidelines.

Salary:
$70,000.00 - $150,000.00Pay Type:
SalariedThe above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
