Finning Canada is looking for curious, hands-on, and data-driven engineering students to join us as a Reliability Engineering Intern (Mining Equipment). This is your opportunity to gain real-world experience on some of the largest mining equipment in the world while working alongside experienced Reliability Engineers.
You’ll be based out of Edmonton or Calgary, with on-site work in the Wood Buffalo region at CNUL Albian Mine and CNRL Horizon. This role follows a 7-days-on, 7-days-off rotation, with flights and camp accommodations fully provided—giving you valuable site exposure while maintaining balance.Job Description:

What You’ll Experience

In this role, you won’t just observe—you’ll contribute to real engineering work that impacts equipment performance and reliability. You will:

• Work directly with Reliability Engineers on active mining operations

• Build hands-on experience with Caterpillar heavy equipment

• Apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges

• Develop your skills in data analysis, diagnostics, and performance optimization

• Gain exposure to industry-leading tools, systems, and technical training

What You’ll Be Doing

⚙️Planning and Assembly of 7495 Mining Shovel (90%)

• Assemble drawing/job packages for trades (Mechanics, Welders and Electricians)

• Perform site safety inspections

• Monitor project consumables and aid in ordering

• Create daily progress reports

• Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks and documentation

• Update drawing and picture libraries

• Assist in production study of assembled machine

• Assist in commissioning of assembled machine

• Compile documents for turn over to client
