Hiring Unit:
Department of Biology
Position Summary:
- Supports Biology 111–112 laboratory preparation activities, including microbiology and plant science tasks, under supervision;
- Gathers, sorts, and organizes laboratory materials, including dry and wet chemicals from designated storage areas.
- Organizes kitchen and preparation room items for relocation and future use.
- Assists in tracking and organizing laboratory inventory during relocation and setup.
- Follows established task lists (e.g., Biol 111–112 spring–summer task list) to ensure materials readiness.
- Prepares and stages chemicals and laboratory materials for safe transport by Chemical Waste services (non-disposal transfers).
- Assists in packing, labeling, and tracking materials during the move to new facilities.
- Assists with the organization and setup of teaching labs and preparation rooms.
- Ensures workspaces remain clean, organized, and functional throughout relocation
- The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. For example, incumbents may be asked to perform additional move-related or course support tasks in coordination with Biology 111–112 staff.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Attention to details;
- Available to work Monday to Friday;
- Experience with teaching labs or lab settings;
- Knowledge of good lab practices;
- Experience with lab equipment: PCR, centrifuges, autoclaves, dishwashers, etc) is an asset.
Experience and education:
- First aid training and WHMIS is an asset;
- Education in biology or related field;
- 1-2 years of experience working in a lab.
