At Loblaw Companies Limited, we succeed through collaboration and commitment and set a high bar for ourselves and those around us. Whether you are just starting your career, re-entering the workforce, or looking for a new job, this is where you belong.

Risk Advisory Consultant (12-Month Contract) Why this role is important

Loblaw's Risk Advisory group is a strategic advisory partner to the business, helping protect, grow, and improve one of Canada's largest and most complex retail enterprises. The team works across the full Loblaw portfolio to advise on high-impact business priorities, strengthen governance, improve operations, and help leaders proactively identify and mitigate risk before issues become reactive.

This internal consulting-style opportunity is for someone who wants to influence how a national-scale business makes decisions, manages operational risk, and improves performance. The work is highly visible, business-critical, and connected to senior leadership and Board-level priorities.

About the role

As a Risk Advisory Consultant within Assurance & Advisory, you will support the execution of high-priority advisory and assurance engagements across Loblaw. This role is not traditional financial audit, SOX, IT audit, credit risk, or compliance testing. It is a consultative, stakeholder-facing role focused primarily on operational risk advisory, proactive risk mitigation, process improvement, and business-oriented recommendations.

Working alongside experienced Risk Advisory professionals, you will help understand business challenges, analyze operational processes and information, identify risks and opportunities, and develop practical insights and recommendations. You will also help prepare highly visual materials that simplify complex issues for senior stakeholders.

What you will do
  • Support the execution of high-priority operational risk advisory and assurance projects across Loblaw's businesses by analyzing business processes, data, documentation, and stakeholder input to identify themes, control gaps, operational risks, and opportunities to improve business outcomes
  • Work with cross-functional business partners, alongside senior Risk Advisory team members, to understand current-state operations, gather relevant information, and help develop practical, business-oriented recommendations.
  • Support special advisory projects and senior leadership / Board-level requests by conducting research and analysis, synthesizing findings, and contributing to clear, executive-ready materials
  • Help build clear, highly visual, executive-ready presentations that connect the dots between business strategy, operational realities, risks, controls, root causes, and recommendations.
  • Support the execution of assurance engagements by participating in stakeholder discussions, interviews, workshops, and follow-ups to document process walkthroughs, gather evidence, perform testing, and record results and observations.
  • Conduct research on emerging internal and external risks impacting retail, pharmacy, supply chain, digital, financial services, ESG, and other areas of the Loblaw portfolio.
  • Use data, process insights, and strong judgment to identify opportunities to mitigate risk, improve operations, strengthen governance, and create enterprise value.
What you bring
  • 0-2 years of experience in management consulting, risk advisory, operational risk, operational internal audit, enterprise risk, business advisory, process improvement, project risk, or a related consulting capacity
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down unfamiliar business problems, work with multiple sources of information, identify key themes, and develop logical conclusions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information and communicate key takeaways clearly and concisely in writing, presentations, and discussions.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, with an interest in developing strong presentation, visualization, and business storytelling capabilities.
  • Curiosity and an ability to connect the dots across business issues, with an interest in understanding how strategy, operations, risks, processes, and controls interact.
  • A proactive and organized approach to work, with the ability to take ownership of and manage assigned deliverables, meet deadlines, and keep team members informed of progress and emerging issues.
  • A learning mindset and comfort working in unfamiliar or ambiguous areas, with a willingness to ask thoughtful questions, seek feedback, and quickly build knowledge of new businesses and processes.
  • A desire to make an impact by producing thoughtful, high-quality work for business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Pursuing an MBA, CPA, CIA, PMP, or similar designation is an asset but not required.
This role is likely not a fit if you are looking for
  • Credit risk, market risk, investment risk, or financial modeling roles.
  • Traditional financial statement audit, technical accounting, or external audit-only work.
  • SOX, ICFR, SOC reporting, IT audit, or compliance testing-heavy roles.
  • Asset protection or reactive investigation roles.
