Are you an ambitious post-secondary student looking to make your mark beyond the classroom? Construct the foundation of your career with the J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) Construction & Equipment Division this Winter 2027!

- Join our team for 4 months, starting in Winter 2027 (January - April) or 8 months, (January - August)
- You'll be based out of Saint John, New Brunswick, with housing assistance available for eligible students
- Since January 2024, J.D. Irving, Limited has committed to reimbursing co-op fees up to $1,000 for students completing their work terms with the company
- Applications are accepted by both co-op and non-co-op students
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR WORK TERM?
From your first day, you'll be working on meaningful projects alongside experienced professionals while helping drive operational excellence across our manufacturing environment.
You'll engage with senior leaders and experienced professionals through coaching, mentorship, and career development opportunities. You'll also participate in student-focused events, tours, and networking opportunities with fellow students across J.D. Irving, Limited.
Most importantly, you'll work directly with a manager who is passionate about helping students develop their careers, build confidence, and strengthen future leadership skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Get ready to roll up your sleeves and contribute to projects that have a direct impact on our operations. Responsibilities may include:
PROJECT COORDINATION AND OPERATIONS SUPPORT
- Support active pile driving projects through daily reporting, quantity and productivity tracking, schedule updates, and project documentation
- Assist with site coordination activities, including pre-job planning, employee and subcontractor orientation records, and project documentation requirements
- Participate in project kickoff, progress, and closeout activities, including meeting notes, action item tracking, lessons learned, and project records
- Gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from estimating and planning through field execution and project closeout
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Support project management processes by helping maintain schedules, tracking project metrics, and coordinating information between field and office teams
- Assist with the standardization and digitization of project management processes, forms, and reporting tools
- Analyze project information and identify opportunities to improve reporting, communication, and operational efficiency
- Complete a defined improvement project focused on areas such as productivity tracking, project reporting, historical job-cost information, or field-to-office information flow
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND ESTIMATING
- Support the management of the pile driving opportunity pipeline, tender tracking systems, and historical project databases
- Assist with collecting and organizing information required for estimates, proposals, and bid submissions
- Gain exposure to customer relationship management, market opportunities, and business development activities
- Learn how projects are identified, pursued, estimated, and successfully executed
FIELD OPERATIONS
- Spend time both in the office and on active project sites to gain firsthand experience in heavy civil construction operations
- Work closely with project managers, estimators, field supervisors, and operations teams to understand project delivery requirements
- Assist with coordinating project information and supporting communication between field and office teams
- Gain practical exposure to pile driving operations, project execution, scheduling, and resource planning
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Participate in workplace inspections, hazard identification, and safety-related project activities
- Assist with tracking corrective actions and supporting project safety documentation requirements
- Learn how safety is integrated into daily operations, planning, and project execution
- Support a culture of proactive hazard identification and continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS
We're looking for students who are eager to learn, take initiative, and contribute to meaningful projects.
The ideal candidate:
- Is currently enrolled in an Engineering program
- Has an interest in continuous improvement, operations, or project management
- Is comfortable learning and utilizing new technologies, including AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot
- Has some experience with technical drawings
- Is an independent learner who can take initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrates strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is motivated, curious, and eager to contribute to a team environment
- A valid driver's license is preferred
