Quality Control Inspector, Coating

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Quality Control Coating Inspector plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and integrity of Canada's newest vessels by inspecting all blasting and painting activities throughout the new construction process, including work performed by on-site subcontractors. As a key member of the Quality team, you will ensure all coating operations meet contract requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards, while identifying and resolving quality concerns, monitoring workmanship, and helping deliver high-quality ships built to perform for decades to come.
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete in-process and final visual inspections of all blasting and coating operations to
  ensure compliance on surface preparation and coating as per standard.
• Perform testing on surface profile, salt content, coating thickness, adhesion.
• Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated and serviceable.
• Ensure materials are stored and handled according to manufacturer's requirements.
• Generate and maintain quality records in support of the inspection and test plan.
• Read and interpret production drawings and specifications to identify quality requirements.
• Document non-conformances in the NCR database and complete root cause analysis.
• Provide recommendations for protective coatings and corrosion control methods.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary education in related field or technical experience will be considered.
  • Preferred candidates must have AMPP Certified Coating Inspector certification, or equivalent (e.g., NACE -CIP or SSPC PCI)
• 7 to 10 years of experience in industrial coating application.
• Understand all aspects of marine surface preparation and coating application, including applying protective coatings including using spray equipment.
• Strong knowledge of naval coatings, surface preparation, spray application methods, industry standards, and safety protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Proficient with MS Office, SharePoint, ERP systems, and coating/surface preparation equipment.
• Experienced in destructive and non-destructive coating inspections and testing methods.
• High attention to detail with the ability to perform accurate measurements and visual inspections.
• Strong relationship management and communication skills.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
