JOB DESCRIPTION
The QA Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of the Food Safety/Quality Programs to maintain the highest level of Food Safety and Quality elements. In addition, the QA Manager provides leadership to the QA group by ensuring adequate staffing and training, and creating a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, develop, and manage the Quality Assurance department, ensuring all policies, procedures, and programs are established, implemented, and maintained in compliance with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.
  • Oversee all third-party audits, regulatory inspections, and associated corrective and preventive actions to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate, document, and respond to customer complaints, ensuring timely resolution and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by leading verification and validation activities that strengthen Food Safety and Quality program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand and address specific requirements, while working cross-functionally to resolve issues and deliver the highest quality products.
  • Review and approve Quality Assurance Operational Instructions (OIs) and related documentation to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Evaluate non-conforming products in collaboration with the Director of Operations and/or Production Manager to determine appropriate disposition and corrective actions.
  • Work in a unionized environment, supporting compliance with the collective agreement, promoting positive labor management relations, and effectively managing team performance while achieving operational and quality objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post Secondary education in Food Science or related field.
  • 4-6 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Training and/or experience with GFSI-recognized audit schemes.
  • SQF Practitioner and HACCP Manager training considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates ability to work confidently in audit environments and respond to auditors professionally and effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptable and eager to learn, with the ability to effectively navigate changing priorities and situations.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, with the ability to guide, support, and provide direction to team members.
