JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Senior Sourcing Specialist of Major Projects with J.D. Irving Limited you will work as part of a cross functional team with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance to provide recommendations on contracts, strategy as well as ensure procurement supports the overall project budget and schedule. This role is perfect for a procurement professional who excels in a fast-paced environment while working alongside major stakeholders for each project. This position is located in Saint John, New Brunswick.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead end-to-end sourcing activities for capital projects, including RFQs/RFPs, supplier evaluation, and contract negotiation
• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for capital equipment, construction services, and engineering contracts
• Negotiate pricing, terms, warranties, and service agreements to achieve optimal total cost of ownership
• Provide procurement recommendations based on cost, quality, delivery, and technical requirements
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align procurement strategies with project schedules and budgets
• Monitor and manage supplier performance, resolving issues related to delivery, quality, and contract execution
• Draft, review, and manage contracts in partnership with Legal and Finance teams
• Support CAPEX budgeting, forecasting, and tracking of cost savings and value engineering initiatives
• Identify and implement process improvements within procurement and sourcing workflows
• Build, maintain, and manage relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders
• Stay informed on market trends, supplier capabilities, and industry best practices
QUALIFICATIONS
• Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field
• 5-10+ years of procurement experience, preferably in CAPEX or project-based environments
• Experience sourcing capital equipment, construction services, or industrial projects is considered an asset
• Strong negotiation, contract management, and analytical skills
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Collaborative approach with the ability to influence and build relationships across teams
• Professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CSCP, PMP) are considered an asset
