JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Engineer, Quality Control, you will play a key role in driving data-informed quality decisions across our programs, serving as a central point of contact for AOPS and RCD quality data, metrics, and improvement initiatives while also supporting Ship Repair quality metrics as needed.
In this role, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of recurring executive-level quality metrics across all sites, leveraging strong data analytics and analysis capabilities to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. You will lead and support root cause investigations, translate findings into actionable solutions, and capture lessons learned to promote continuous improvement and consistent quality performance across the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate, and automate key performance metrics, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery within budget and clear accountability across functions.
  • Support scheduling and workflow for AOPS QCTC and ship repair during high-demand inspection periods.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering, production managers, and supervisors to maintain efficient operations and productivity.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives and support the documentation and standardization of procedures for AOPS and RCD.
  • Maintain and update Inspection and Test Plans by interpreting drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality requirements.
  • Provide quality data insights to support business goals and lead regular stakeholder meetings.
  • Support cross-functional improvement and standardization initiatives, including root cause analysis, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and implementation of lessons learned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation or ability to obtain.
  • Demonstrated 4-7 years' experience in ship building, manufacturing, construction or relevant complex industrial environment with a focus on quality assurance and quality control.
  • Experience as a Quality Engineer or subject matter expert over one or more business systems.
  • Training and experience in lean/six sigma or other improvement methodologies, i.e. lean, green, or black belt or equivalent, or interest to obtain.
  • Lead improvement projects using structured methods; solve complex problems and support risk-based decisions.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding methodologies/process and experience in a shipbuilding environment preferred.
  • Communicate complex issues clearly and drive cross-functional collaboration.
  • Manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Coach and mentor stakeholders across teams.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
