About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day accounting function in our Charlottetown, PEI office. This is a hands-on role overseeing the full accounting cycle for a multidisciplinary professional services firm.
The successful candidate will be dependable, resourceful, and confident working independently, managing competing priorities, and following up with clients, colleagues, and firm principals. They will bring sound judgment, accuracy, and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
You will oversee project accounting, billing, collections, payroll coordination, reconciliations, reporting, and month-end and year-end preparation, including complete records for our external accountants. There is also an opportunity to contribute to budgeting, cash-flow forecasting, and project profitability analysis as the role develops.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable and receivable, vendor payments, client invoicing, collections, and general ledger accuracy.
• Complete monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Support payroll processing, including employee time tracking and benefits coordination.
• Prepare journal entries, month-end close, and complete year-end schedules and supporting records for external accountants.
• Oversee project accounting in Ajera, including project billing, work-in-progress (WIP), receivables, and project financial reporting.
• Coordinate HST/GST remittances and other required filings, maintaining sound financial controls and compliance.
• Maintain accurate records across multiple companies and currencies; liaise with clients, staff, principals, and external accountants; and support cash-flow reporting, budgeting, and profitability analysis as appropriate.
Key Qualifications
• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience. A CPA designation is an asset, not a requirement.
• Five or more years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a professional services or project-based environment; equivalent strong experience will be considered.
• Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle, reconciliations, year-end preparation, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems; familiarity with Ajera or similar project-accounting software is an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines and multiple entities or currencies.
• Clear, confident communication skills and willingness to follow up proactively with clients, employees, and principals.
• Proven ability to take ownership, work independently, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential financial information.
