Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the direction of the Senior Stewardship Technician (with support from the Stewardship Coordinator), the successful candidate will assist with conducting all aspects of field work and data management related to the stewardship program. Projects may include but are not limited to biological monitoring, infrastructure installation and maintenance, volunteer engagement, and public outreach.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Assist with fieldwork across PEI to support INT's stewardship program
- Install and maintain infrastructure (i.e., signage, trails, benches)
- Assist with habitat monitoring surveys
- Participate in restoration activities (i.e., tree planting, invasive species management, dumpsite removal)
- Collect and manage data timely and accurately
- Assist with public outreach and education activities
- Act as an ambassador for Island Nature Trust (INT)
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Collaborate with fellow INT team members to prepare engagement content for interpretive signs, newsletters, website, social media, etc.
- Occasionally assist with species at risk monitoring (bobolink, piping plover and bank swallow)
- Assist with other facets of INT's work as requested
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Junior Conservation Technician should expect to spend an average of 4 out of 5 days in the field in all weather conditions throughout the summer. The candidate should expect to have some long days (i.e., 10 – 12 hours) conducting fieldwork through the summer. If applicable to the candidate mileage will be reimbursed for personal vehicle use.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*Experience may be gained during paid employment, volunteer and/or educational experiences*
Required:
- Candidates must have completed a minimum of Grade 11 and be enrolled in school for the 2026-2027 Academic Year
- Demonstrated interest in the environmental field
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Adaptable to modified work plans
- Ability to work independently and seek assistance when required
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work well in a team
- Ability to use MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel)
Assets:
- Acceptance into a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field such as biology or wildlife management for the 2026-2027 Academic Year
- Previous experience working (paid or volunteer) outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Prior experience (paid or volunteer) working in the environmental (or related) field
- Ability to identify common plants and animals in PEI
- First Aid and CPR training
- Valid Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle (or ability to be insured on INT work vehicles) is a strong asset
