YMCA Glenn Carpenter Center is a non-denominational day camp, open to all.

The Opportunity:

The Head Lifeguard will be responsible for the delivery of a quality waterfront program for all Glenn Carpenter Center participants. The Head Lifeguard will work closely with lifeguards to ensure that all waterfront-related activities and services are executed safely.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all safety standards are being followed on Glenn Carpenter Center's waterfront, supervising and supporting lifeguards on duty, creating a lifeguarding schedule, and ensuring a fun, safe atmosphere is maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing proper swim instructions for day camps as needed.
  • Responsible for the care, safety, storage and inventory of all waterfront equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of camp-wide water emergency procedures.
  • To assist in other Camp operations as requested by the Assistant Coordinator/Director.
  • To strive to ensure that every child who attends Glenn Carpenter Center is treated with respect, understanding and compassion.
  • Responsible in ensuring that Glenn Carpenter remains a peaceful, positive, and educational environment for all its campers, CITs, staff, and guests.
  • Maintain a professional work environment, adhering to all policies and processes, including the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards and YMCA Child Protection Policies

Skills and Qualifications:

  • On going or completed Bachelors Degree, Community College diploma or similar from accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a Day Camp, Childcare, Afterschool and Youth Programs an asset.
  • N.L.S and N.L.S Waterfront Certification
  • Possess a strong work ethic and excellent organization skills.
  • An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required by start date.
  • L.S.I. Certification is an asset.

Required:

  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
