JOB OVERVIEW: Research and Partners Manager

This role reports to the Director of the Applied Genomics Centre (AGC). Reporting directly to this position are senior and junior research staff, and research students.

The Research and Partners Manager provides oversight and technical support to all employees executing and managing AGC research projects. This position is responsible for ensuring all research projects have well designed objectives and budgets, through consultation with the project partners, AGC Director, AGC faculty and senior staff members. This position is accountable for ensuring that projects are completed on time in an exemplary manner and within the established budget as outlined in research agreements. This Manager is responsible for contributing to the decision-making process for a variety of complex strategic decisions regarding the operations of the Centre and its research programs. As the internal and external key parties keep growing, this position is responsible for building and maintaining good relationships with them. This position will play a major role in developing new external partnerships for research projects. This Manager will be responsible for engaging in various knowledge dissemination and community outreach events and promotion of the AGC.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Master's degree in genetics, or closely related field, required; Doctorate degree preferred;
• At least seven years of experience working in a multi-disciplinary research environment;
• Demonstrated multi-disciplinary understanding of genomics, and the application of genomic tools in agriculture innovation and sustainability.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully lead multiple projects/research teams simultaneously.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

COMPETENCIES

• Extensive and successful experience in supervising a team of diverse personnel and providing guidance on proposal preparation, project design, data collection and analysis, publication and dissemination of results.
• Demonstrated ability to work with research collaborators, community key parties, and governmental officials.
• Excellent interpersonal skills. Capacity to build and nurture relationships with people of diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
• Highly developed program management skills including coordinating multiple research and extension projects and financial oversight.
• Extensive and successful experience in managing a complex, public, unionized work environment.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written English language skills. Demonstrated technical oral and written reporting skills.
• Ability to represent the Centre and research/outreach projects at all times in a positive, accurate, and professional manner.
• Ability to use software appropriate to research and reporting tasks (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other genetic data analysis and statistical analysis software).
• Ability to travel between campuses and ability to travel within the province and Canada to meet with key parties or potential collaborators as necessary.

Salary Information

The compensation range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary (as listed above) for a position. Approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and approximately halfway of the salary range for a job. Annual salary increases are available through participation in the Administrative Performance Management program
