CJAM is a nonprofit campus-based community radio station. We provide music and information programming not offered by mainstream commercial media in the Windsor/Detroit area. We serve people and groups within the community who are underrepresented or maligned by mainstream media by allowing them a forum to express their views.
Job Description
The Ethnocultural Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for connecting with various not-for-profit organizationsand/orcommunity organizations in Windsor who are visible minorities.
The goal of this position isto recruit members from these communities and encourage partnerships and new spoken-word programming with these individuals / organizations.Preferably in their native languageso CJAMcan better serve local communitieswho havea language barrier, such as seniors and newcomers.
These prospective new volunteers would provide messages from and for their respective cultural communities.It'sthe role of the Ethnocultural Engagement Coordinator to help get them involved at CJAM!
Responsibilities:
– Doing research about the prospective cultural communities before outreach.
– Outreach by email, phone,and/orin-person with members of the BIPOC, other visible minorities in Windsor, and members of official language minority communities (French language communities outside of Quebec). The goal is to foster continuity, quality, and relevance in programming and potential volunteers.
– Present orientation sessions promoting CJAM at cultural community centers, whetherit bein-personand/orvirtually.
– Present orientation sessions at CJAM with the interested cultural prospective volunteer(s).
– Attending cultural events inWindsor;representing CJAMandpromoting our services in this manner.
– Assisting the prospective volunteers by showing them how to useCJAM'sequipment and digital audio workstation.
Desired Qualifications:
– Excellent oral and written communication skills.
– Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
– Showninterest,and experiencein,community building.
– Broadcast andor,journalistic experience an asset.
– Strong interpersonal skills; willing to put themselves out there.
– Ability to adapt to changing deadlines, working with new tools (eg.digital audio editing software, studio recording equipment).
This role isfull-time,andpays $17.30 per hour, 35 hours per week, for eight weeks.
