As a Labourer II in Edmonton's renowned River Valley parks, you will join a team in delivering high quality services to ensure visitors have reliably excellent experiences in clean, safe, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing parks.
Your excellent customer service skills, demonstrated by your professional and positive interactions with park visitors and team members will be essential to your success in this role. In this position, you will:
- Working under the supervision of a Crew Leader, you will complete a variety of tasks to ensure parks are kept in excellent condition such as minor repairs and maintenance, trimming, pruning, and operating irrigation systems
- Perform park servicing and janitorial duties including opening and closing public facilities, general parkland and amenity building sanitation, emptying garbage, litter picking, pressure washing, graffiti removal, sign installation and maintenance
- Review daily bookings and ensure venues are set up/prepared for guests. This includes transporting park furniture, setting up furniture to match floor plans, preparing event locations for use and posting signage indicating sites are booked
- Operate equipment for the upkeep and maintenance of parks, including front end loaders, toolcats with a blade, broom or snow blower, water trucks, plow trucks with an oscillating blade, pull behind brooms, 72" sweep brooms, generators, chainsaw, and manual snow blowers as well as various hand tools required to complete assigned tasks
- Support the operations of the 100 Street Funicular by completing regular inspections, performing system resets and assisting patrons on site as needed
- Maintain outdoor ice surfaces, cross country ski trails, and toboggan hills for winter use
- Conduct work in a safe manner and comply with OH&S requirements including the completion of hazard assessments and maintaining records
- Set priorities based on daily assigned tasks
- Assist other staff in troubleshooting issues in the field
- Complete accurate digital records including logs, inspections and incident reports
- Perform related work as required
Qualifications
Qualifications :
- Completed grade 10, high school diploma preferred
- 1 year experience with manual labour in a park setting or River Valley Parks operations, or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Experience in operating various types of equipment and hand tools related to this position
- Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
- General knowledge of basic maintenance activities, including standard usage of materials, tools and equipment to complete park servicing tasks
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment such as utility vehicles, trucks, trailers, loader, and skidoos
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, organization, time management and prioritization skills required
- Current valid Standard First Aid Certificate, ice resurfacing training and certificates for the operation of related equipment would be considered assets
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit C-NSC is a requirement of this position
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton policy

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week.
This position is subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work schedule. This position may be subject to a compressed work week, with four 10-hour shifts. Evening and weekend work is required.
Salary: $23.504 - $31.302 (Hourly); $49,076.350 - $65,358.580 (Annually)
