Fortis Mining Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for the position ofa Welding Supervisor. The Welding Supervisor's primary responsibilities are varied and include production welding, service and repair welding, prototype building, fitter welding and organizing the workload for the shop welders. The Welding Supervisor will be required to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, workorders, and other written instructions. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test will be required as a condition of employment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory Tasks
- Ensure all welding is completed according to pre-set welding parameters and approved processes
- Assist in managing the workflow of the welding shop ensuring jobs are received, reviewed, and completed in a timely manner
- Liaise with the Lead Welding Supervisor, Fabrication Shop Planner/Scheduler, and other internal personnel as necessary, to discuss execution of upcoming jobs
- Coaching, assisting in training, directing, and supervising of junior employees and apprentices, inspecting, and certifying their work (CWB Certification, training, maintenance, etc.)
- Coordinating work to be completed by welding crews
- Liaising with Fabrication Shop Planner/Scheduler and Purchasing Manager to ensure that adequate materials are available for scheduled start date of jobs
- Work with engineering to ensure shape cuts and shop drawings include design for manufacturing
- Using critical analysis to review drawings to ensure that welding specifications, materials, and other requirements outlined will function as designed in the environment in which it is intended for
- Liaise with internal personnel including the Lead Welding Supervisor, Engineering, Quality, and other Production Leaders on jobs when necessary to discuss requirements and alternatives with goal being to complete the job in the most cost effective and efficient method
- Monitor material/parts usage and report on any material issues
- Review blueprints and specifications; ensures drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for
- Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation
- Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and oxy-acetylene welding (OAW)
- Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
- Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines
- Repair parts of metal products by welding extra layers
- Conduct Technical Inspections
- Conduct repairs, modifications, and retrofits
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair techniques
- May be required to travel to jobsites to:
- Perform onsite welding and field fits
- Assist Quality department with QA/QC inspections
- Inspect and maintain machines
- Maintain and clean all machines and tools
- Report requirements for repairs to supervisor/manager
- Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports on required equipment
- Processing jobs according to defined company policies and protocols
- Assist with other duties, as required
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings with shop personnel
- Ensure completion of pre-use inspections daily or as required and successfully submit to the HSE department
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Must possess solid welding skills and knowledge; must possess superior fabrication skills
- Journeyperson Welder/Metal Fabricator credentials considered an asset
- CWB Weld Supervisor certification required
- Experience in a supervisory or lead hand position
- Solid understanding of Design for Manufacturing principles
- Minimum of three years' experience welding in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred but not required
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and critically analyze information provided on drawings
- Ability to lead and schedule work for the crew
- Experience with routine maintenance operations
- Proven ability to deliver high quality workmanship and to solicit high-quality work from crew
- Must be adaptable to competing demands, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
- Ability to complete Quality Control Checks throughout the fabrication process
- Any safety-related training and certificates would be beneficial, but not required
- Valid driver's license required
