As a cook, you will be part of our team of talented chefs and staff who prepare, cook and serve mouth-watering meals to our customers. You will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Cooking Cuban, Spanish and Latin dishes, such as ropa vieja, paella, empanadas, and tacos, using traditional recipes and ingredients. You will follow the instructions and guidance of our head chef and ensure that the food is cooked to perfection and meets our high standards of quality and taste.
- Making a variety of sauces, such as mojo, sofrito, and salsa, using fresh and authentic ingredients is a must. You will use your creativity and expertise to create sauces that complement and enhance the flavor of the dishes. You will also store and label the sauces properly and keep track of the inventory.
- Preserving and fermenting foods, such as pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi, and yogurt, using proper techniques and equipment. You will use your knowledge and experience to produce foods that are healthy, tasty, and long-lasting. You will also monitor and maintain the temperature and cleanliness of the fermentation area and equipment.
- Butchering meat, such as pork, chicken, and beef, for private events, using knives and other tools is a must. You will cut, trim, and portion the meat according to the specifications and requests of our customers. You will also ensure that the meat is handled safely and hygienically and that the waste is disposed of properly.
- Fixing kitchen equipment, such as stoves, ovens, mixers, is an asset. You may troubleshoot any malfunctions or damages that occur in the kitchen equipment and report any major issues to the manager. You will also perform regular maintenance and cleaning of the equipment and ensure that it is in good working condition.
- Assisting with other kitchen duties, such as washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, stocking supplies, and taking orders. You will work cooperatively and efficiently with the rest of the staff and help with any tasks that are assigned to you. You will also follow the health and safety regulations and policies of the restaurant and ensure that the kitchen is a safe and sanitary place to work.
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications and skills:
- At least 2 years of experience in cooking Cuban, Spanish and Latin cuisine, with knowledge of traditional recipes and ingredients. You should be able to demonstrate your cooking skills and abilities through a portfolio or a trial session.
- Must be able to make a variety of sauces, such as mojo, sofrito, and salsa, using fresh and authentic ingredients. You should have a good sense of taste and creativity and be able to adjust the sauces according to the preferences and feedback of the customers and the head chef.
- Experience in preserving and fermenting foods, such as pickles, sauerkraut, , using proper techniques and equipment. You should have a good understanding of the science and art of fermentation and be able to produce foods that are healthy, tasty, and long-lasting.
- Experience in butchering meat, such as pork, chicken, and beef, for private events, using knives and other tools. You should have a good knowledge of the anatomy and cuts of meat and be able to butcher them with precision and skill.
- Familiarity with the friendly environment of Cuban culture, music, and lifestyle, and ability to interact with customers and staff in a courteous and respectful manner. You should have a positive and cheerful attitude and be able to communicate effectively and clearly in English and Spanish.
- Resourcefulness and willingness to troubleshoot and help when appliances get broken or other problems arise. You should be able to handle stress and pressure and be able to solve problems quickly and creatively.
- Ability to lift and move up to 80 pounds, and work in a fast-paced and hot environment. You should be physically fit and agile and be able to cope with the demands and challenges of working in a busy kitchen.
- Valid driver's license. You must have a valid driver's license that allows you to drive and deliver food to customers when needed.
- Availability and flexibility to work shifts and weekends. You should be able to work on different days and times, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, depending on the needs and schedule of the restaurant.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.20 per hour
