Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Capital Accounting & Financial Systems, this position will be responsible for all IFRS reporting for Capital. This person will be responsible for process improvements that need to be made in the Capital Accounting Group and will work closely with the Senior Capital Asset Accountant (Regulatory). This person will also be responsible for documenting new processes as they arise. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of independence in a dynamic work environment. Technical excellence in accounting theory, efficiency, sound judgment, self-composure, and a positive attitude are essential attributes for success. The ability to demonstrate teamwork both within a group and with other departments is a must have for this position as this position interacts significantly with the Projects and Operations groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing capital asset reports and analysis, to support IFRS Financial Statements and Management Reporting.
  • Preparing and maintaining of capital asset policies and procedures to ensure adherence to IFRS.
  • Maintaining effective relationships among Accounting, Operations and Projects departments for all capital asset issues and reporting.
  • Troubleshooting project capitalization issues.
  • Exercising professional judgment based on knowledge of the business, and accounting theory and concepts to ensure transactions are reasonable.
  • Discussing difficult or unusual matters, with senior employees throughout AltaLink and developing recommendations. Assisting and providing backup, as required, for other capital accounting duties.
  • Reconciling capital asset accounts and investigating and correcting related issues.
  • Performing research to assist in the development of systems and procedures.
  • Working with internal and external auditors on capital assets issues.
  • Carrying out special projects or other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An accounting certificate or degree. Accounting designation, CPA (CMA, CGA, CA) would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory capital accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel is required.
  • Strong knowledge of detailed account reconciliations impacting the company's primary assets.
  • SAP experience is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.
  • Proven track record of good performance and attendance.

Pay: $94,947.60-$113,545.44 per year
