Responsibilities – Describe the main areas of responsibility for this role

> This position has responsibility for the Corporate Human Resources as part of the senior management team in executing the company's overall business strategy. The HR Specialist function will establish objectives for the organization in accordance with government legislation - plan, develop, evaluate and deploy personnel and labour relation strategies including policies, programs and procedures to address the organization's human resource requirements.

> Responsible for staffing and maintaining the company's terminal requirements.

> Responsible for the company's fleet size requirements through effective attraction and retention of professional drivers and is responsible for the overall turnover rate.

> Furthermore this person monitors and strives to continually improve the company's culture, standards or ethics and morale.

Define Role Tasks – Indicate: Quantity - Quality – Time – Resource

> Participates as a member of the Manager team. Develops an aligned Organizational Structure to Strategy. Populates as required once approved. It is essential that HR practices are aligned and complement one another, in order to contribute to organizational success and the fulfillment of the Mission.

> Provides human resources advice in the development of strategic plans for the company.

> Develops company policies and procedures to ensure the most value to the company and ensures compliance with same, Overall responsibility for the company SOP's and the Corporate Policy manual

> Plan and administer staffing initiatives, compensation, training and career development, employee assistance and terminations

> Oversee and ensure compliance in Employment Equity legislation

> Oversee and ensure Pay Equity is developed and administered consistently and fairly

> WSIB claims administration and upkeep of appropriate records / documentation.

> Advises managers on the interpretation of internal and external surveys, policies, compensation, performance management and all other HR programs.

> As the Privacy Officer, ensure compliance with this legislation throughout the company – accurate and confidential maintenance of employee files and attendance records

> Ensures the high quality of terminal and driver payroll and benefit initiatives is maintained

> Initiates programs that attract and retain drivers to ensure the driver pool is fully staffed with professionals.

> Co-ordinates Driver performance Review Process

> Initiates programs to attract and retain quality terminal staff, while maintaining a talent pool for key positions.

> Participates in compensation and benefits surveys for corporate salary administration to ensure current and relevant data is available on trends and patterns

> Research and update occupational classification, job descriptions, salary scales and competency appraisal measures and systems

> Other duties as required by the Vice President or President

Relationships with Peers

> Maintains a high level of open communication regarding department needs and expectations with colleagues on the management team.

> Works co-operatively with other management team members to ensure efficient execution of Corporate Strategy.

Describe Decision-making Scope

> Develops and adheres to departmental and corporate improvement budget.

> This role decides the HR policies and procedures the company will follow.

> Has hiring and firing responsibilities for staffing the department

> Operates within company guidelines established to maintain hiring standards

Cross-functional Relationships and Authorities

> Maintains positive relationships with all departments and provides recruiting and retention support across the organization.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

> Undergraduate degree and C.H.R.P. or equivalent

> Five (5) years experience in the industry

> Good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

> Complete knowledge of legislation, initiative and compliance issues as they relate to a Federal company

Pay: $59,228.31-$80,000.00 per year
